its dreadful & i want to be at my 1st FA cup quarter final since Leeds in 2003. or watching the F1. but we have all got to suffer together & follow the advice. nobody likes this & weve all got things we want to do or watch but if we half arse this it could go on for far longer than if we can just have patience & wait it out

For what it's worth I think it's a load of old bollocks, blown out of all proportions .
Wouldn't have happened in the 80s we were made of tougher stuff back then ......Corona virus ffs its glorified flue

If you don’t want to be first against the wall Bearlie, you might want to keep that logical shit quiet

No. It isn’t. It shares some characteristics with influenza but there are some critical differences. Flu has a mortality rate of 0.1%, COVID-19 is likely 6-10x higher, and that’s just the start of the problem. The severity comes from the number of people that could be hospitalised, as seen in Asia and Italy. We have 8 ICU hospital beds for 100k people in this country, but latest models put the number needed at 300 per 100k.

That means we’re about 190k ICU beds short, let alone effective face masks or protective equipment for the NHS. This has the ability to collapse a country’s healthcare system. And that’s not to mention the healthcare workforce getting ill and not being able to work, or resources being diverted from those in need of cancer treatment, or a crucial organ transplant. That’s why everything moved so quickly, as Imperial College London modelled late last week that if urgent measures weren’t taken, we could be looking at 250k deaths.

It’a absolutely nothing to do with how hard you are

F1 ... just play with your Scalelextric it's more interesting!

Flu is more dangerous than Covid.

Covid is so contagious.

The issue is so many people will get it so many vulnerable people will get it.
Dont want to go into a back and forth with someone.

From someone who works in the NHS.
Dangerous how? It has a lower mortality rate

Iam self isolating on day 4 of 14. Iam a bit worried about having to go back to work as Plusnet are staying open. Risking my health but the company just make us sit by each other. Hopefully they will figure out a way us to work from home. As for football, forget it, we wont be seeing that for a long long time. On a side note, Italian doctors say its worse than flu for many people and is more like chronic pneumonia.

It’s worse than flu in general they think. In Individuals that are critically ill, they think it’s triggering an overwhelming immune response whereby healthy cells are attacked - a so called cytokine storm. Interestingly that’s why think men are more impacted than women as they tend to have a stronger immune response, and kids are generally more a symptomatic as theirs is usually weaker.

Take everyone rushing to supermarkets at the same time and emptying shelves, now swap bogroll and hand sanitiser for ICU beds, ventilators and highly trained staff. That’s why we need to isolate and flatten the curve.

The government's response to support us coupled with the SKY news report out of Italy makes me think it's worse than any of us thought.

Lets hope most of us get through it.

I've got a PM on here from. Blade with a 95 year old Dad who's badly - they dunno if it's the virus till he gets to hospital.

Would you tell him to his face that it's a "load of old bollocks and just glorified flu"?

Think about what you're saying - this is hitting everyone - including elderly Blades.

It's great we've got geniuses like you two around to tell the scientists how logic works.

I feel much better knowing this isn't a fatal pandemic, we're just a bit nesh.

I think the shittest thing about it is the idiocy it's generated, there won't be a pandemic if people just had half an ounce of common.
I have no problem catching it but I'm not passing it on to anybody vulnerable, I'm staying away from the elderly etc (which means losing out on work) and in general don't meet groups of people from week to week.
My parents are 'self isolating' which means they went into town so my 84 year old dad could have an eye test, when I pointed out the absurdity of this I was met with an argument! I'm not arguing with you just pointing out why you aren't self isolating (you fucking moron). The argument was then joined by my nieces, siding with my mother who are both 'health care professionals' and obviously both the proud owners of degrees! And one of them has already been to visit to give her a Mother's day present. I honestly think they post this shit on Facebook just to wind me up.

Yes. The UK is pitifully under provided with ICU beds.
OECD statistics quote only 6.6/100,000 people.
Turkey in comparison has 34.
i read today that Lombardy only had 500 beds (plus 150 in private hospitals) for 7 million people. No wonder they were swamped early.

I had heart surgery 20 odd years ago, fixing one of valves which wasn’t quite right. Until now apart from getting the flu jab every year and seeing my consultant every 2 years it hasn’t impacted on my day to day life. I’m 47 in a couple of weeks time.

I am now self isolating, getting crappy comments from work on why I’m not coming in and I’m having to defend why I am working from home. Coronavirus isn’t scaring me, it’s the complications if the infection gets into my heart. The heart can’t defend its self, it’s designed for blood to flow through, so any infection cant take hold, except if you have scar tissue like I have. If I get any infection, it’s 12 weeks in hospital, possible surgery, 20% mortality in the 1st year, 40% after that.

This week I should find out That I’m to carry on self isolating from my GO. I am prepared to stick this out for however long it takes, so I can have the rest of my life, see my kids grow up, see United improve as they have been, rather than be prepared to go down the pub or bump into someone who just met someone who didn’t wash his hands, and end up in hospital.
