I guess we are better off than after the first seven games, we have in my opinion a fab championship squad and top 4 budget, we get playing some of the most entertaining football in my 50 years and gain confidence and momentum. Then we freeze the pitch, field a disjointed team in the cup , celebrate losing at Charlton like we had just won at Wembley for the first time and then put that out tonight and they were so under pressure and shite. We took so many steps forward and have self capitulated in our what seems a unique style because we have the budget and players, so yeah it’s a frustrating grumble, sorry to go on☹️

Deluded we are a average at best championship side a top heavy squad of players no one else wanted many on long contracts and decent wages
When fit we have a strong 16 players rest are shyte
And conditioning ffs embarrassing
Likely that Norwich will be above us Saturday let that sink in

A squad that can’t accommodate the best player in the championship, one of the most expensive centre half’s, possibly the best striker and most experienced, some unbelievable talent coming through, jairo that everyone has loved, second best keeper last season, a superb ohare, last season’s best left back and now mcallum playing well, a choice of Arblaster, Davies, peck, soumare, Jairo in midfield, is that deluded?

Is this Wilders tantrum of ok if i can’t sign who i want i will field a weak team?!?

Joke!!! We had a team that could have At least got a point from!!

We can add Southampton, to Preston, West Brom, Wrexham and Charlton, as 5 massive reasons why there is no hope of us getting anywhere near the top 6. All games in which we have completely failed to beat sides when we were either in control of the game, and disintegrated, or we were garbage in at least 1 half of the match.

How can a side scoring for fun 4 weeks ago suddenly look so inept? All teams have injuries, it’s why we have a squad, but we just seem to be unable to handle any forced changes to the team.

One issue is undoubtedly the strange decisions CW makes, we have seen before teams that he has put out that look like losers before the start of the game. I don’t get all this ‘well he sees them in training’, they are footballers, just get out there and do your job. Seriki, MaCallum and Brooks should start unless injured, Campbell should not start, he is currently a liability. Arblaster should play a maximum of 45 minutes. Rotate Peck, Matos, Davis and Blaster if 90 minutes is too much.
Shelf Ings, rotate Hamer, Ohare and Cannon around Bamford.

But my big gripe with CW is his inability to change tactics mid game, others do it and sometimes reap the benefits, but we just seem to keep the same way of playing regardless. This has always been his failing as far as I am concerned, and is why he will never be a truly top manager. I don’t want him to go, but I do want him to evolve. I fear we could become the next Preston or Blackburn, always between 7th and 20th, skirting the top 6 and the bottom 4 at times, but always ending up between 7th and 20th!

Wilders decision making on 1. That team selection, and 2. The late substitutions. raises all those questions about his long term future as manager due to his judgement.

If 30k fans can see, why can’t he, that was a total joke, and he’s just blown any chance up in smoke.

If you don’t laugh you’d cry.

Both wrong. The data supports that we've been one of the best teams in the league for the couple of months prior to the red cards (if not the best).

I'm sure Wilder didn't want to put out that side, but what was he supposed to do today?
  • Jairo out (absolutely key to our turnaround)
  • Tanganga Suspended
  • Soumare Suspended
  • Bindon out
  • McCallum played is heart out and reportedly is carrying an injury - with a big game in two days.
  • Seriki (as above)
  • Brooks (as above)
  • Bamford (as above)
  • Hamer not fit enough.
  • Davies not fit enough

  • Arblaster not fully fit but had to play
  • Peck not fully fit but had to play
  • Mee not fully fit but had to play

Didn't expect to win with that team, clearly the strategy was to try and stay in it, and then go at them with our best players in the final 30. We nearly got a point (and probably should have).

Unfortunately those 2 red cards and Jairos injury have been a major derailment to any hope we had for our season, without them we likely win at Charlton, and aren't as stretched today . 2 losses - and now picking up top players this window will be difficult because we aren't an attractive proposition, nor should the board throw money at expensive loans for the likely mid-table finish.

Still, we have a good side, and will finish comfortably clear of relegation. The season was blown by idiotic decisions in summer. We need to be focused on building for next year now.

Sadly stubbornness has been a regular downfall of CW’s. Once he’s stuck on something he seems intent to make it work despite all evidence showing it’s not.

Last season it was persisting with Robinson (and to a lesser extent Brewster & BBD) when it was clear we needed to replace Souttar properly, and O’Hare, JRS & Brooks were bombed out. Only once auto’s were gone did we switch to 4-4-2 and try something different.

Similar patterns again this time and a major lack of adaptability in games, just chucking subs on into the same system that clearly isn’t working. Away from home the 4-4-2 can really leave us exposed with a total lack of control - why not stick Hamer on the left in a free role like last season and make a midfield 5 with O’Hare in the 10? We played like that most of last season, are our players incapable of playing in more than 1 formation?

Agree on everything except Hamer(presumably that’s who you mean at start of your post?).He’s been average at best this season with a sprinkling of brilliance but that’s surely not enough. He doesn’t perform on a regular basis unlike O Hare and by all accounts hasn’t got the required desire to become a top consistently performing footballer which is why he’s on the bench. He’s in real danger of spoiling his legacy at United if he carries on sleepwalking his way through games like last night. For me he’s one of two biggest underperforming players this season,Tyrese Campbell being the other.

We had two players sent off at Charlton…Prior to the sendings off it was shaping up to be one of the best performances of the season…So why the seven changes at Soton ?

He could and should have made changes at HT.

But he simply can't. 60 and 65 minutes is his favourite.

He did more in the short time he was on than most of the side did all game. He actually knows how to pass the ball forwards.
