Watching our squad today; Fleck, Norwood, Basham, O'Connell, Sharp, Henderson; and listening to the manager before kick off, upbeat and full of positivity, I was reflecting again that this is a top quality side who work for one another. They're not that far away.

Then followed a fast, positive, entertaining start, we were right back at it and fantastic to watch. Enda, Duff, Bill, Fleck - fantastic. Enda's forrays, Duffy's skill, Billy's passion, Bash's combativeness, Norwood's class, Fleck's battling and absolutely bloody delighted for McGoldrick. Jack with a run forward of old, and deserved a goal off of it. Yes, we faded but our pass and move was back to near it's best and we had the running of the squad with the biggest wage bill. They offered very, very little in the first half. I bloody love our squad and the quality we bring, considering that there are individual players in this division who cost more than our entire squad.

They grew into it second half, and let's face it, they ought to - how much have they spent? We tired and lost our shape, a process which was sped up and helped by the subs of Duffy and Fleck.

But to be honest, the club is in a good place, it's best place for many, many years. We all hope the ownership can clear the air and invest accordingly, but that much is truly out of our control. As for those who are already here, our form will click, it will come and we'll see more of what we saw in the first 35 minutes.

Wilder has instilled a great work ethic in the side, and along with his 3-5-2 system has brought the very best out of them...
However, the quality in the side is not good enough to mount a serious challenge as is being proved against the better sides.
Stevens, cannot pass/cross a ball to save his life..
Billy creaking along like a good un',Baldock never champ class.
Fleck has really dropped away...
So we really need some reinforcements in January to freshen things up if we're to keep in touch.

With that title, me thinks you've been watching too much internet porn.

If we have a younger, quicker, faster, fitter Billy
If we have a younger, quicker, faster, fitter Duffy
If we have a younger, quicker, faster, fitter McGoldrick
If we have another Fleck who can attack instead of looking 5 yards to his left to play a simple pass and give someone else the responsibility
If we have centre halves who after being advised to pop up on each wing can actually cross a ball

I agree we'd not be far off

Think the OP has been given some of his piggy mates Deludamol

The thing is, Sharp, Duffy, Clarke, Basham, Mcgoldrick which is HALF the team, can't get better as age isn't on their side, we need to be looking toward the younger lads to push on, or, ship them out and bring others in.
We play great football for 30-35mins, then were done.

It’s the same old rubbish, you hit 30 and you are busted from there. Only 7 days ago Billy comes off the bench and gets a winner. A sham has been playing brilliantly for me, McGoldrick only needs to start hitting the net and we have yet another striker in double figures. Bearing in mind Billy is already on 10 for the season. These players still have a part to play. Shipping half the team out and just putting youth in will break it. Then you really will have something to moan about. Barca and Liverpool and Man City are about the only teams I have seen who play intense for 90 minutes. Guess what, they all have a lot of money to play with.

West Brom sh[we'd that extra bit of quality when needed. They had to be resilient as with a bit more luck we could have left them a mountain to climb first half . One slack pass from Norwood a couple of nice breaks for them passing it forward And we get punished. Second half their quality won the day . But we were never out of it and Billy could / should have done better.
It's such a tough division but we keep losing by the odd goal in tight games where in other games hopefully e might get the rub of the odd pass ta?ing a deflection in our favour

I'm not saying ship them out at all, and im one of Bash's biggest fans, love the guy.
What I'm saying, is we need to start introducing youth into the team.
And yeah, it is "The same old shit" because we aren't learning from it, and it will be "The same old shit" as last season, when we fall away after Christmas, which is what's happening in games, or are you watching a different game to the rest of the living world??
First 30 mins, fantastic football, best football I've seen for ages in any league or competition, then were shot, NOT 1 SHOT ON GOAL SECOND HALF FFS!
Everyone looked tired, we had nobody to call on from the bench, as a result, we were fucked and we lost.
Tell me I'm wrong!

We’d also be in the Premier League and have splashed over 100m on replacements for those you talk about.

You’re so wrong. You don’t ever take into account the strength of the opposition. West Brom are rightly one of the favourites for promotion. When you can call on Gareth Barry and Dwight Gayle as a starter for ten you are already streets ahead of anything we have.

We're the top end of the championship for the second year in a row, and only our second year back here. The miracles Wilder and Knill are working on a small budget are there for all to see. We are punching well above our weight but this squad makes me incredibly proud.

If only the owners could see that a little investment could push us on.

It shouldn't matter about the quality of the opposition, if we want promotion, we need to be on par, and we aren't, can you not see that!??

Totally agree, and if we want premiership football, this is the time to start building.

Yeah yeah yeah
Harvey Barnes, 21 years old on loan from Leicester tore us a new arsehole, in fact he's tearing everybody a new arsehole.
Mason Mount, Harry Wilson are both doing very well

But it's the same old story "poor old pathetic small time us"
We've hit the peaks of what a cheaply assembled team can and if Chris Wilder is one of the very few United fans in the world that actually has a miniscule amount of ambition we're going to have a problem keeping him

I don't criticise lightly because I have so much respect for what has been created in recent seasons, but not getting the rub of the green is absolutely nothing to do with why we aren't winning these type of games.

Everyone pans out the same. Avoidable individual errors and a lack of ability to maintain performance for even a hour, isn't down to luck.

Sorry mate but as good as we’ve been on the pitch for the last three years, as good as we have been in the last thirty years, the club itself is in very very dangerous place at this moment in time.

Agreed mate ……. we are at the point where the investment of a modest amount of money on 2/3 quality players would push us on to being genuine contenders for a play-off place.

Regrettably, the Club is in the hands of owners who are more interested in their own position than the genuine progress of the Club ……. same old story with United …… always held back by inept / poor / naïve / incompetent leadership o_O

I just hope that with Tufty being a Blade, that he is prepared to persevere at the Club, marking time, until we can hopefully find genuine owners who actually do have some money to invest and take us forward :(

What we saw last night was the real Sheffield United, magnificent for the first 40 minutes, players at the top of their game, then one mistake & we seem to buckle. I am so proud of the team & coaching staff that we can show the so called bigger hitters in this league how it is done for half a game, but the style we play is very exhausting, & when that happens our bench is not full of the same calibre of players to keep that advantage.
The board on the other hand, not proud at all, but it is clear that Wilder/Knill have to work with scraps, without major investment we are at our ceiling, in fact over achieving. The team are showing us what is possible, which is why it is so frustrating for everyone to see how close we are but at the same time being resigned to the fact we will fade away because our squad just doesn't have enough to carry us over the line against the big spenders on a regular basis.
I know they are not currently playing for the national team, but West Brom had 4 players on the pitch last night who have played for England, & another one in Harvey Barnes who will most likely get his chance, we just cannot compete with that for the full 90 minutes, in effect the squad & staff are playing with one hand tied behind their backs.
For the moment I accept this, we have come a long way very quickly from the dark days of League One & for that I am grateful, I love the style of how we play, but without investment we are hitting the rev limiter & not having an extra gear to go into. Frustrating yes, but until the boardroom struggles are over it is where we are, but keep the faith guys, our management team are fantastic, let us hope the board see that & act accordingly before they want to leave & manage a team with more ambition.

Agree with all the above.... except ‘a little investment ‘
Barry was the difference in the 2nd half, ran the show box to box = £45k per week
Gibbs scores the winner, £6.75m summer purchase and £55k per week
Rodriguez looked like Sharp with age on his side. £12.5mil summer purchase and £60k per week.
So 3 players this year will have cost £8.3mil in wages and transfer fees of £19mil.

£8.3mil on wages of just 3 players! That about our squad budget!
If we really want to compete we need investment McCabe just hasn’t got, and Prince isn’t willing to invest until the boardroom is sorted.
We all want the best for our club, but let’s take a reality check, and appreciate what we’ve got, rather than bemoan what we haven’t

That's the whole intention of my OP mate, appreciating what we have. And you're right, the investment and finances WBA have are substantial, mind-boggling for this level. I wouldn't ever expect us to compete for players of their calibre, or spend those sums of money - I'm thinking merely an improvement and upgraded on what we do have. Even that, I'm concerned we won't spend...
