Does anybody know?

Has anybody seen him in the cricketers or the new spar outside BL?
Half of me wants to sit and wait it out but the other half of me wants to phone the missing people helpline. I feel like a father who's child hasn't come back from the playground.

Come home Paul, I believe in you.

Very strange how all the others on the injured list get some sort of name-check in Nige's interview yesterday, but Coutts... well...

Maybe nobody's introduced Nigel to him yet?

He was at the Blackpool game with Alcock, in their whistle and flutes. Very much alive.

He was having pictures taken in the family stand with Flo Cuvelier before the Blackpool game

He's injured, for pity's sake, let's stop being drama queens.
I wasn't actually asking whether Paul Coutts was still alive.
I was just wondering if anyone had an update on where he is/whats up with him? Because we've not had an update on him or Flo.

He must be in the plans, he's squad number 8.

It'd be handy to know the nature of his injury.

Did he pick up a new injury or did the new management go for a get him back to full fitness even if it takes 6 months approach.

I'm firmly in the camp of a good pre-season and chances are we'd've had a really valuable player on our hands.

As it is it's another missed pre-season and the future looks pretty dim, and expensive.

During the games at the end of last season, although running he did seem to be restricted in some way

Never ever stretched his legs

Have we ever signed a player who had a terrible injury history who did not continue to have a terrible injury history?

The most prominent recent examples are Coutts, Ryan France, and Wallace. There are also people with patchy records like Porter who continued to have patchy records. Further back, there is the Jon Ebbrell disaster.

Have we ever signed anyone like this who has suddenly become more healthy? Anyone know?

If not, that's another reason not to sign crocks.

Hopefully Wallace and Coutts are exceptions to the rule!
Wallace has been okay (touch several pieces of wood) so far this season

If we do sign players like this then you would think they would be for a reduced fee and/or reduced wages given the risks involved.

You make a judgement, a risk analysis.

Also the persistent breakdowns might be down to a general football culture of short termism. Players with serious injuries brought back too early, and the injury persists and ultimately ends their careers.

That's not inevitable. Plenty recover fully from ACL injuries if rehabilitated properly.

I'm guessing this might be the approach with Coutts and maybe even Kennedy possibly informed by Adkins' medical experience. I'd imagine he's seen careers curtailed by poor treatment.

Here's hoping a fully recovered Coutts will be fit and flying by Christmas.

Otoh...

That's right. They are cheaper. That's why we (and others) do it.

But a sunk cost is a sunk cost.

I'm not sure exactly what the records looked like but I think Jamed Beattie spent a fair bit of time injured in the couple of years prior to signing for us.
