Reading were relegated from the PL when Adkins first took charge, but that was in March. TBH they hadn't spent very much boosting their squad, so not sure what they expected?
The next season they missed out on the play-offs on the last day. The season after, they slipped down the table, but were quite close to administration for most of the season - players had to be offloaded.
