Potentially risky thread and I'm hoping not be told to naff off to Hillsbrough, but I'm wondering if it's worth paying £23 to watch us at Orient on Sat'day. From what I've heard on here (and what I saw against Coventry), it looks like it's just painful to watch. Scrapping away and struggling to break down poor teams, it sound like we'll struggle to touch the ball on Sat'day. I honestly don't mind seeing us get beat as long as we give it a go, but I'm not even sure if we're doing that.

Cons:

I'm going to Swindon at home, Oldham at home and Notts County away in the next 6 weeks, so I don't NEED to go.
I'm skint.
I'd have to take the missus and she might be so appalled she'll ditch me. At best, she might drop out of Notts County away and I need to stay at her house.
We have Marlon King and he might play, which I morally disagree with.

Pros:

I live in London.
I can make a 'Murder on the Orient express' pun if we get battered.

All honest/humorous opinions welcome (naff off to Hillsbroughs not so much).

If you're hard up, and with Christmas coming, the decision is easy - save your money.

However, from my long experience as a bitter and twisted supporter, football can be unpredictable. Every now and then you get a performance you don't expect, and a win for the Blades is by no means impossible on Saturday.

However, they could get battered, as you say....

All I can say is that it has come to a sorry pass when SUFC (average attendance just short of 17,000) are worried about being battered at Orient (average attendance just over 5000).

Here's what you do: you take half that £23 and stick it on a United win. If we take the battering we're expecting, you've saved £13 and a grim afternoon standing in the cold. If we win, you take the winnings and buy your lady friend something shiny. Win/win.

I think Orient have done enough now to prove they are a good league one side. I think some people still actually think we are going to finish above them at the end of the season.

I've seen us get smacked for four there before in an Easter nightmare.

However, as Dazzler points out, surely we haven't sunk to the depths of being "scared" of Orient. Or have we?

It was actually on the last day of the 82-83 season when we got smacked 4-1 there. 14th May 1983. Houston got our goal - his only ever goal for United in his last appearance. We finished mid table that year and Orient needed to win to avoid relegation, so the result was not entirely unexpected.

I suspect the "Easter nightmare" to which you refer was Easter Monday 1978 - 27/3/78 when we lost 3-1. Campbell got our goal. Orient actually had a good team in the late 70's - John Chiedozie, Peter Kitchen, Laurie Cunningham etc and they got the semi-final of the FA Cup in 1978.

Remember brentford last season? We probably didn't expect such a lesson in football. And whilst the result was shite it didn't stop us enjoying the day/ evening because we had beer of all varieties to drown our sorrows.

Next time I'm on leave for a London away trip I'll do my best to get down because its always good to have a good laugh with a few blades.

The good thing with London away games is that there are normally a few blades hanging around after with nowt better to do!

Get yourself down there and enjoy the thrashing :)

Christmas lights switch on at Meadowhall might swing it for some.....
