The admin over at www.boromania.com has been in touch and asked if we'd answer a few questions for their match preview.

  • How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

  • Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

  • What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

  • Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

  • Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

  • Who do you see going up this season?

  • We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?
If anyone is a bit bored this Friday and would like to answer one or more of the above questions, stick your comments in this thread :)

Cheers!

  • What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?
United's academy seems very good at producing defenders. We sold Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton to Spurs in a multi million pound deal over the summer and while we haven't got any youth players ready to make the kind of impact they did on the first team, there are a few that are hotly tipped to come through in the years, some of whom are already involved with their respective national sides.

Callum McFadzean and Connor Brown are two defenders playing in our academy and reserve teams who are expected to become first teamers while Phil Roe played a small part in the first team pre-season fixtures.

  • How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

For me is has been a disappointing first half of the season. Sure we are sat in 7th place and within a hiars breath of the play offs, but I feel we should be doing better. Our squad is thin, but it is full of quality. I look at the team sheet every week and see it contains names such as Chris Morgan, Kyle Walker, Mathew Kilgallon, Steven Quinn, James Harper, Jamie Ward, Henri Camara and Daruis Henderson and think we should be challenging the top 2. These are players that are proven quality or budding young stars.

At the start of the season I thought we'd be pushing for an automatic position. I predicted top 4, but we are nowhere near that. I honestly believe that we have to quality to challenge the top 2, but we just lack direction from management. The Championship is very poor this season and we are wasting an opportunity to try and get back to the promised land.

  • Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

To be honest we are a bit one dimensional. We play very 'direct' football. this usually involves our centre backs hoofing it up to Daruis Henderson (or Richrd Creswell if he's not fit). That said we do have quality in the team, we just fail to use it most of the time. The Blades are a hard working side with players such as Montygommery, Morgan and Ward who give it 110% week in week out. Sheffield United have never really been a slick passing side. We got a repuation for long ball tactics with Basset and although we've had snippet of good football over the last 15 years (Spackman, Kendall and times under Warnock) it's been mostly route one football. This has not changed under Kevin Blackwell.

Watch out for young Jamie Ward. He is a real terrier and hassles defenders. Not only this but he is very dangerous. The guy is quick, nippy and razer sharp. Henri Camara is struggling with fitness, but when he is on the pitch he is very dangerous. The guy just has that extra yard of pace that reallly threatens defenders.

  • What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

I'm sure there are but there's none that I am aware. United have pumped a lot of money into the yoth set. The academy produced 2 incredibly talented youngsters in Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton. Both have bags of potential. They both play at full back and are both very quick. Unfortunately we sold both of them to Spurs at the start of the season.

  • Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

No. Blackwell has already said that we won't be spending, unless Kilgallon is sold. I expect Blackwell to bring in 2, possibly 3, loan signings.

  • Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

To be honest i don't know any Boro players. I looked at the squad and the only names I recognised where Aliadier, Lita and Arca. I don't rate any of those 3. The name Johnson is being ping around, so I guess id go with him.

  • Who do you see going up this season?

Newcastle and West Brom and oh so easy. The play offs are an absolute lottery. There are a whole host of teams in with a shout. As said beofre the Championship is awful this year. The standard is terrible. I'm not even impressed by Newcastle and West brom. They are just slightly better than the rest. Of of the other play off contenders (Forrest, Cardiff, Boro, Leicester etc) no one has really impressed me.

  • We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?

Another draw, but this time with goals. I'm going for a 2-2. It will be a game lacking in any real quality. A tough, pysical battle between 2 average looking sides.

•How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

I always expect United to be in or around the top 4 for most of the season. Currently sitting 8th just outside the playoffs is a little below my expectations but the main reason we are off the pace is due to injuries. Most of our key players have been in and out of the team because of it.

•Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

Personally I see Darius Henderson and Jamie Ward as our main threats. Big Darius is a nightmare for opposition centre backs with his power and aggression. He gives us a focal point. You will find Jamie Ward darting in from the right wing. His pace and tenacity makes life hard for the opposition as well.

•What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

We haven't seen any more this as of yet this season but we are lead to believe more are on the horizon. We sold Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker to Spurs for a combined £10M so we seem to have a knack of producing defenders (Jagielka another example).

•Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

I don't think there is much chance of a permanent signing as it was clear only the sale of Kilgallon would raise the funds but looks like he is staying which isn't a tragedy. It wouldn't surprise me to see more loan signings.

•Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

I like the lad Adam Johnson on the left wing, he could be hard work but we kept Kyle Walker on loan and he should be enough to match him. He has the pace and is very powerful.

•Who do you see going up this season?

Hand on heart I can only predict Newcastle. They will run away with it. Its then between West Brom and Forest for 2nd. The only team I can see making a late run to challenge that is ourselves. Take your pick with the playoffs - who knows?

•We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?

2-0 to the Blades. We seem to be gathering some momentum at Bramall Lane. Boro isn't any easy game for us by any stretch but I think we will be too strong for you at home.

How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

About right. We've a decent first XI which should be play-off material, but we're always a few injuries away from total mediocrity

Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

Only Jamie Ward and Henri Camara are likely to be seen as dangermen. Both are quick, tricky and can score a goal. Elsewhere, the centreback pairing of Morgan and Kilgallon is very strong, and Lee Williamson in midfield is potentially the man to make us play.

What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

We've sold them all. :( The academy may have some more ready in year or so. None imminent.

Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

Expecting Kilgallon to be sold, and perhaps a replacement sought. Otherwise, nothing other than loanees.

Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

Adam Johnson looks far too good for this division.

Who do you see going up this season?

Sorry to say this, but Newcastle appear to be grinding their way out of the division with a brand of football no better than our own. West Brom have the class and style so I hope they go up. Forest were awful when we played them, but it looks like Billy Davies might be doing another Derby.

We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?

Ha! You thought that was dull... Anything could happen. When we're good we can beat anyone in the division with a fair wind. When we're bad we can grind out an ugly draw. I know Boro are somewhat hungover this season, but if their class player perform they should win. Prediction: 2-2.

  • How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

Not good

  • Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

Nice try, give me your Bank Account Number and home address first...
  • What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

...and your credit card details

  • Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

Only in the last couple of days of it where we will probably sell rather than buy.

  • Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

Couldn`t name any of the Boro team if I tried (apart from Yeates, who apparently has been liked with us)

  • Who do you see going up this season?

Not you, Not us. Probably the Barcodes, West bromwich yo-Yo and someone lucky in the PO

  • We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?

a dull 2-0 win for the blades

How would you class your season so far compared to the expectations you had pre-season?

We're higher than I expected (predicted 10th to 12th) but playing a "style" of football that seldom pleases (1st half against Palace and Peterborough being exceptions).
It's been a poor season for entertainment.

Tell Us about Sheff Utd, who are the dangermen and key players?

Jamie Ward is lively. He will be playing wide right (if he's fit) and that isn't his best position.
Lee Williamson is a revelation when we can get him on the pitch.
The defence is key.

What about United's future, any promising kids coming through?

The two Kyles have come and gone and more than paid for the academy for years to come. However, the academy head is now on his way to Hungary and if we start trying to produce players in the "Blackwell mode" we will be back to square one very quickly.

Do you expect to be doing much business in the transfer window?

No

Who would be the dangerman or one to look out for in the Boro team from a Sheff Utd viewpoint?

The wide man, Johnson is it.

Who do you see going up this season?

Newcastle (who are shite).
Hopefully WBA in front of Forest.
Forest, 3 other medicrities for the play-offs.

We played out a dull 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season, What is your prediction for this game?

More of the same

Could the Boro chappie tell us about Yeates?

We saw him in the opening game and I think he got MoM from the TV people. Seemed to be energetic, fairly strong and liked a pop at goal. Seem fair?

**edit**

Sorry - ignore me - found the link at the top:

Mark Yeates could soon be heading through the Middlesbrough exit door on his way to Sheffield as he enters talks with Sheff Utd over a proposed move, rumoured to be worth around £500,000.

Yeates who arrived at Boro in the pre-season for an undisclosed fee from Colchester has struggled to cement a place in the Boro first team and, since Strachan arrived, has seemingly fallen completely out of favour.

I can't say I am terribly suprised to see Strachan allowing Yeates to move on, he has never really impressed me in a Boro shirt. A couple of decent moments and someone who seemed like they would give 100% every game but on the whole I thought he looked too slow, not fit enough, seriously lacking a final ball and defensively a bit of a liability.

Uh oh. I haven't admittedly seen anything of him since the opening day. Sounds like his debut may well have been an exception to his overall performances since then...
