When we got relegation in 1988, Bassett offered his resignation. Derek Dooley made the right decision in rejecting it and always gave him strong support. After that we had two successive promotions and had 4 seasons in the top level
I knew Dave Bassett,
I Supported under Dave Bassett,
Dave Bassett was a hero of mine,

Nigel Clough, is no Dave Bassett.

Very much the forum of the clappers this isn't it?

Amazed how many are comfortable to be heading for division four.

Nigel Clough is no Dave Bassett? and you've decided that in, what? 10/12 league games?

No it's not the forum of the clappers, it's the forum of Sheffield United fans, who find it utterly ridiculous that we have had 9 different managers since leaving the Premier League. What will sacking him acheive? Who are we going to get? Some other manager, who you will want to sack if we aren't top by christmas because he had 'a transfer window and half the season to sort it out'?

Short termism gets no club anywhere, there is empirical evidence for this. Clough is not to blame for this shocking demise, you could arguably stamp the death certificate of this club back to 13 May 2007.

Don't want to be rude, but get a grip man!

Nope we will never be a stable club if we keep sacking managers every 6 months.

The most of the players are not his and he has been looking to offload most of them.

Not me. Many enjoyed the 1981-82 season but I wasnt the same and I watched a few of the games cos I was playing football in the Friendlies League on Saturdays. This season is the worst squad we have ever had and I have said this before. Remember this is the squad Clough had inherited so he should have another season like Bassett did. Some of Bassett's signings for the 1987-88 season were poor ones (Powell, Williams and Carr spring to mind)

Clappers? Why is that Za? Because so many disagree with your opinion? You think that we're actually happy because we don't blame Clough? Clough's not been here long enough to give a proper approximation of his talents, so comparing him with anyone else is ludicrous.

I feel as passionately as you, the fact that I don't pull my hair out, stamp my feet, and fail to get a grip on what might be the real reason why we're in this position isn't the problem. This goes back way before this season. In fact we've been headed in this direction for some time. People have been screaming for a goal scorer. Which forward of worth would come to a club threatened with relegation? If I had that sort of talent I know I wouldn't come here, so for those who unrealistically thought all we'd have to do is pull out a chequebook, get real and get a grip on the realities that this club faces. We're currently a club in decline. The one positive note is the manager we have. If the board do as we've been lead to believe, then my take is he'll sort this club out and get us moving in the right direction. Clough was never going to perform miracles, neither can he immediately undo all the poor decision making that's happened to bring this club to it's knees.

So we're unhappy. Get over it. Sure, write intelligent complaints. Decent criticism is always welcome, and after today I'm royally fucked off, but how I feel isn't going to change anything. If anyone screams at the top of their lungs and assumes this will be interpreted as constructive criticism then I'm glad we've got captains of industry amongst our supporters.

Vent your spleens at the players. They're the ones who stole a wage today. Not Clough. UTB

He will leave anyway, so the question is irrelevant.

EDIT: voted no, cos quite obviously he shouldn't be sacked. Shouldn't even be a discussion about it. BUT i'd be amazed if he decided to stay with us with presumably no money to spend either. Bound to get a better offer and move on to somewhere more ambitious. Like Fleetwood or Chester.

Ken, You forgot to mention Stocksbridge Park Steels. I appreciate your humour on this hot sunny day 27 deg. cold beer in hand.
IMO. The last thing we should do is part with Nigel Clough, whichever league we find ourselves in.
It must be difficult for him to motivate players who are fully aware that they will be down at the jobcentre, come the end of the season.

That is why I had hoped that Nigel would bring in more players who .looked up to better times, rather than those who must realise that they have nothing to play for but pride. From what I read, Pride is in short supply at the Lane.

As for Mr Clough leaving of his own accord; I think not. Like his dad, he has a stubborn streak and will want to see the job through.

I got called a Clapper  Piss myself fucking laughing at that one!

Clough, in spite of a shitty, lying, tight fisted board and a complete lack of talent to work with is the one thing that gives me hope that we might avoid the drop. He's not the problem, the wankers who continually employ managers then fail to support them are the ones to blame.

We have the manager debate on a regular basis, McCabe must love that because it deflects the blame from him. He's the root cause, he's the one who's overseen the most spectacular demise in our history, and whilever he has anything to do with the running of the club we'll continue to do fuck all. As for the invisible Prince well welcome to the club, nice to see you're taking our current plight seriously. Are you related to Nero, because you appear to be standing idly by while we crash and burn.

If you read this Jim Phipps well for God's sake do something about it, you keep spouting bollocks that you're a fan so prove it, get angry because we are, we've seen all this before and it's fucking soul destroying.

Are you for real? I can't really believe that anyone is comfortable the we're heading for Division Four. In fact, I can't believe that anyone is in any way, however small, comfortable thea we are in Division Three.

Still, another newcomer who takes one brief look around and is able to label everyone so quickly........

We are were absulutely totally fucking shit under Weir but under Clough we are just totally fucking shit. Doesn't matter who is the manager because what have you got left when you take a turd out of a bag of shit........a bag of shit!
