Sadly no full report tonight. I’m on the train on the way back from Huddersfield. Will do a quick summary and match ratings...

Bit of a predictable game really. Ended in us ahiwing a real malaise and nothing sort of finish to the game. We ended up a bit disinterested. Huddersfield had everything to play for and were solid first half and then did what they had to and stepped up 2nd half.

We had nothing to play for but we had spanked Preston on Saturday so a relaxed United had shown to be dangerous. We played a fairly strong team with Anel only real one missing although Doyle did not play. Lowe got injured early on and Enda came on.

I felt we dominated first half and think we had like 70% possession +, but whilst we moved the ball and them around, we did not create lots. Jebbo has 2 chances and a really good one he missed from a header. We looked in total control without scoring and the home side sat back. Berge was dictating play and McAtee and Ndiaye were getting in good areas but we did not really break them down. They seemed content to defend. We seemed content to keep it but with little penetration.

2nd half, Huddersfield stepped it up and started winning the ball in midfield. We sat back and also made mistakes. Bash was turned a few times and we did not keep the ball at all. They had a shot Wes saved and then we took Ili and Jebbo off and even though the latter had struggled, he still had pace to stretch them. Ndiaye’s exit was a bit of a white flag I felt. McBurnie and Sharp offered nothing. Statuc and slow. Berge dropped off and Norwood was careless with the ball. The home side sensed it and were the far better side. The goal came when Ward rolled Basham I think (might have been Robinson – hard to tell) and hit a great curling shot into the corner.

We made more changes but not sure we had any chances at all. One Bash ball across and that was it. The crossing all game was atrocious. I’m not sure we could have crossed it as bad if we tried. They were all at it. Huddersfield kept getting in with Bash having a nightmare. We changed to a 4-4-2 but it did not change anything at all and the players sort if gave up which was disappointing even if did not mean anything. The second half was really poor and showed why we should not be contesting giving any deals to Stevens, Fleck and Sharp. Bash having another year means he will stay but he looked very old tonight. Our main threats were Ndiaye, Berge snd the two loan lads. Without them it was a real struggle and we had a lot of slow and immobile players.

In the end Huddersfield deserved the win. They came out 2nd half and fought much harder. We looked disinterested and the players and team were waybill it after controlling and strolling the first half.

I was looking forward to Jebbo and Ndiaye but the former was as bad tonight as he was good Saturday. The rest of the team just looked off the pace. I’m not going to slate them- we’ve done the job and you sensed it was maybe a game too far after the last few weeks. Hopefully we can finish with a bit better showing to end the season at Birmingham on Monday. The priority now has to be sorting off field stuff out and ensuring Hecky can plan for next season.

Ratings –

Foderingham 7/10 - No chance on the goal – great shot. Saved one other decent one after half time and he was fine with everything else.

Baldock 6/10 – Steady ish but did not offer much going forward at all. He ended up left back and offered even less!

Lowe – Went off after about 3 minutes.

Egan 6.5/10 – Best defender as he actually won a few headers and tried to come out with it. Got a silly booking again.

Robinson 6/10 – Got turned a few times and did whack it quite a bit too when under little pressure. Thought defence was ragged 2nd half but not helped by those in front.

Basham 3/10 – OK first half but after the break he had a nightmare. Think he got turned on the goal and countless times he got beat or tried to gamble and they stole in. His touch and passing was abysmal too. One cross at the end bit overall looked a bit of a liability sadly.

Norwood 4/10 – First half he was ok but he also was the most careless of the front in terms of losing the ball or playing it too long. 2nd half he really struggled and got ran past or just was aimless as we had no control of midfield. Rightly subbed as he was offering nothing.

Berge 6/10 – First half excellent and sort of ran the game. He was composed and strolled it and they could not get it off him. He probed and tried to find openings. After the break he was not involved and faded badly and they won the loose stuff. He sort of disappeared by the end

McAtee 5/10 – Few decent moments but when well placed he took too many touches or his end product was wasteful. As the game went on, he became less influential.

Ndiaye 6.5/10 – Our main threats and when he got it we looked like we ‘might’ create. Many of our decent moves came from him picking it up and dribbling or trying to link with others. When he went off, our threat was non existent as the front two who came on were completely ineffectual.

Jebbison 4/10 – Ran the channels and offered us an out ball but he missed two really decent chances and the ball did not stick at all with him. Behind the centre back too much. Looked way off it. No issues him going off but McBurnie did even less.

Subs

Stevens 5/10 – OK first half but struggled when they ran at him after the break. Ended up going off after he had come on. Will probably play at Brum if Lowe is injured.

Sharp 2/10 – Completely non existent. No threat, ball did not stick and he was slow. He did nothing after he came on.

McBurnie 3/10 – First four touches went to a blue and white shirt. He looked like he was drunk (maybe he was). Every lay off was behind his man. Did not look a threat and when crosses came in was stationery. Him and Sharp as a combo is awful. Both look miles off Premier League and you can argue neither should be retained.

Fleck 5/10 – Got on it but never really created much and lost his man on the touchline as he was defending.

Doyle 5/10 – He tried to link and drive forward bit his final balls were shocking. One cross straight behind and another into the first man.

Egan's booking might have been silly, I would call it soft. Udders had done exactly the same to Illi on numerous occasions and came through the back of him, he tried to stay on his feet, the ref did nothing. Then an innocuous pull on the half way line and a booking for Egan. Its the modern game, be more savvy, yeah i hear you but its shit.

That feels better :)

3/10 flatters Bash, although I only saw 2nd half to be fair, McBurnie -1/10, I actually didn’t notice Sharp

I really enjoyed the 1st half. It was great to see us try a few different things we haven't seen before tactically and to totally dominate possession. If Jebbison took his one on one then we might've blown them away.

Second half, for whatever reason, was really poor.

Thought like we ran out of road second half.

Jebbo had time to cushion his header downwards rather than attacking the ball.

If you have time and space with heading chances like that it is always best to let the ball come to your head for you to direct it rather than attacking the ball

McBurnie's cameo was the worst I've seen all season. It was woeful. Looked like a bloke who's been parting for seven days straight. 1/10.

Sharp no better but looked less pissed up.

Berge and Ndiaye the standouts but overall not much to shout about. They get a free pass given we've nowt to play for but it was quite poor really and was a bit of a waste of money save for a couple of decent beers at Magic Rock beforehand.

This was our post promotion "off game" and Burnley had the same. Meant nothing to us, saved Huddersfield. Move on.

Like crossing the line in the maraton, job done, then do some extra sprints.

I was glad to see Jebbo start, but he's got to score the first chance..surely he could have slotted it to the keepers left..not sure what he was trying to do with the header...he's still young and learning so I'd stick him in v Birmingham as Billy and McB offer no real threat in behind teams, and at least Jebbo gives us that option.
