How bad are Spurs?

Seriously. We are in 8th position in League 1. We rarely score two goals in any game. This Spurs side have got out of jail thanks to two moments of brilliance from Erikson and a lucky involuntary handball for a penalty in the first game.

The team of overpaid non-achievers ( apart from Erikson) hardly worked our keeper in 180 minutes in open play. We scored two goals in open play.

We were always going to lose over two legs, but I'd ask those Spurs supporters in their adulation of their players. How come they were so ordinary and got out of jail frankly. Our annual wage bill is £4.5m per annum. What is yours? That Eriksenn earns that doesn't he? What if he had been injured or suspended. What about the rest of your big time charlies on all those salaries you lads are funding. My season ticket is £260 a year, what are you paying to watch those charlottans?

So frustrated that we left that back door open. Kayne played his first good ball of the night, Erikson makes a good run and a perfect finish. End of story. BUT is that what you pay all those players all that money for. The rest of your squad were crap. Even our man Walker was only average. I think you have neutralised him. We sold to you an enterprising attacking wing back who caused the opposition all sorts of trouble. He was a bit naive defensively but his pace got him out of trouble. We've watched him develop with interest and at Villa he was realising his potential. Since he came to you he has been neutralised, it's like he is playing at 50% throttle, always within himself, never playing to his potential.

I thoroughly thought they were quality in the first half, first to every ball and sublime passing, cracking goal_no ones fault.
Second half we slowly found a bit of extra gear and got in there faces. For 15 minutes of the game when Adams and higgopotamus came on we were threatening to cause bother on their back four.
We huffed and puffed but that was it.
Spurs on a very talented team whom I rate in higher asteam than manure and Liverpool. A quality side that utd did pretty well against considering the gulf between leagues.
We are very much in the mix for pro
promotion but will not be achieved without the addition of at least one good striker, macnulty was poor last night as was Baxter.

I think there's a bit of a consensus that I took the defeat rather badly last night. A few have some sympathy and they are being too kind I think, but I appreciate it:)

I still think Spurs got out of jail in the end though:D

Quite enjoyed this thread.

WWF - very strange opening post.
Lister - You my cockney friend are a prize cunt. Whilst I would really like to see Spurs beat Chelsea in the final I hope to fuck you can't get a ticket.

My opinion, as briefly described on the "should we have gone for the winner" thread, is that we were second best until Spurs thought they had it won and relaxed (just the same as Chelsea last Saturday). Having got that foothold we could have gone on to win until we were undone by another quality finish.
Another hugely enjoyable night.

PS. I used to live on Lister Crescent, glad I don't anymore because I'd involuntarily shout "Wanker" every time I walked past the street sign now.

Is this really the case? Because it certainly didn't used to be. A foul had to be deliberate to be a foul, sadly since Colina decided that football shouldn't be a contact sport, accidental contact is interpreted as a foul in the box but I didn't think they re-wrote the law on it?

Similarly off-side, again the the interpretation has in effect changed but the law always was 'seeking to gain an advantage by being in an offside position' and again, I didn't know that had changed.

So generally all misdemeanours had to be deliberate otherwise they weren't against the rules of the game has this actually changed recently?

Genuine question because I don't know as much about the laws of Football as I did when I played it.

Well I am paraphrasing Graham Poll's first paragraph here which I assume to be correct:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...xplained-Newcastle-got-lucky-Fox-penalty.html

In reference to what you are asking, he uses the example of tripping. It doesn't have to be deliberate, the referee just has to ascertain whether it happened or not.

Think the OP is being a tad harsh, as most of you have pointed out. Thought we controlled the game 1st half, looked very comfortable and Dembele stood out for me a mile off.

2nd half you had to go for it and absolutely had us on the ropes 10/15 mins, most people around me thought that was it and we would be out. Just one pass of brilliance and a great finish won it for us.

At the risk of sounding patronising and believe me i am not, I thought your lads have been superb in both legs, gave us a great game and 2 fantastic atmospheres. All the best for the season ahead, I genuinely wish you promotion.

For every offence except handbal, carelessness or recklessness is enough. Handball has to be deliberate.

Yes, Darren and Secret Chief, you are correct.

In my Dad's copy of the Laws of the game (1964); Law 12, Fouls and Misconduct;

"A player who intentionally commits any of the following nine offences:- .............shall be penalised by the award of a direct free-kick"

FIFA Laws 2013/14
Law 12, Fouls and Misconduct;

"A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any
of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be
careless, reckless or using excessive force:"

So they moved the goalposts and didn't even bother telling me. Therefore I hereby apologise to anyone who has heard me accusing a player of diving over the last 30 years.

(its the one where the attacker drags their leg so that an oncoming goalkeeper accidentally 'trips him up' that really gets me)

Please don't think that opinions such as that put forward by a tool like 'Lister' are the general consensus of Spurs supporters - go to any Tottenham forum and you'll see that your team and (for the most part) supporters are held in high esteem. Whilst we're extremely happy to have reached the final, there's no doubting how hard The Blades pushed us to do so. Also, and almost to a man (or woman!), those of you who registered on Spurs forums for chat have been intelligent, funny, self-effacing and, in defeat, very charitable. I hope the Spurs who frequented the SU fans forums did likewise.

Sheffield United were a credit to division 1, and the blades fans were a credit to Sheffield and the team.
