The Star said:
EX-Sheffield United goalkeeper Alan Hodgkinson, aged 71, showed some safe handling when he collected his MBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.
Alan, who played 576 games for the Blades (1954 -1971), received his award for the contribution he has given to football and in particular the development of youth footballers.

He said: "Prince Charles presented me with the medal and he knew all about me, about when I started and everything.

"He congratulated me and said 'you deserve this medal for all you've done for, and given, to football'.

"His words made me very proud."

Hodgkinson will continue to be Oxford United's goalkeeping coach next season.

Keep your wits about you down there Hodgy... you know what these London types are like for muggings! :D

Nice to see some real football people recognised unlike these falling over bin-dipper types (step forward, Steven Gerrard.)

Big congrats to Hodgy; from what i have been told and what i have read you were first class.

Congratulations Hogdy :)

wish i could have seen him play, heard some great stories about when he played for the Blades.
