The Stoke game was the walls fault as you can clearly see in the match video. They didn't move to Henderson's left enough despite his repeated protestations.
For those criticising for the Leeds game, I ask but one question. Name me one goalkeeper in a fooballing side who's distribution hasn't resulted in at least one goal this season?
Clue: You can't have Allison, Ederson, Pickford,De Gea, Leno, Cech or Lloris. No further questions your honour. If he's been targeted they're targetting the wrong man.

Mistakes like the ones I mentioned in my post (Stoke, Leeds) can be cut out. But he will be targeted by teams that can cross a ball well. He’s unconvincing on set plays. My point was when a player moves when a contract runs out, clubs use what would have been a transfer fee as wages (see Juve and Aaron Ramsey). So for example if they paid him £300k a week, that's just over £15m a year, its not actually that bad as theyve got him for free.

I understand the point you were trying to make, I'm just not sure it applies to De Gea and Athleti.

Regardless of him not costing an initial fee, Athletico will have to find that £300kpw from somewhere, I doubt they have that in their budget as surplus.

If there's no fee, I'd also imagine he'll expect a higher signing on bonus.

I dont know for sure but it makes sense that centre forwards, who've come from a high paying English club, will generally be on higher wages than a goalie who's most likely coming to the end of a 5 year deal. I dont dispute that Man U dwarf anything that AM can spend in wages but that's not to say that DDG is one of those earners. Plus by the time his contract is up, he'll have been there 10 years, the likelihood is he might want to move on! Its been muted for about 12 months at least in the broadsheets, got to be some fire behind it.

I'm sure he might want to move on but he's currently on a reported £200k, and asking for a reported £350k new deal - there are very few teams in world football able to pay that, and they all seem to be fairly well stocked in the GK department - that's my original point.

I can't see it personally though, Madrid have much bigger issues than in the GK department: they practically need a new squad and 'galacticos' cost a lot more than they used to.

They'd also have the same issue with Courtois: if they want to move him on; who can afford him?

Really, where do you suspect he’s going for 300k+ a week? No chance to Madrid. They need to rebuild most of their team, especially up front and at centre half. They’ll be spending 300-400 million plus and none of that would be on a keeper
He’ll sign a new deal on around 350k/week and see out his career at Old Trafford.

I agree with that point; that's why I haven't contradicted it. In my opinion all young goalkeepers, even those who go on to become world class, stuggle with two aspects of their game: distribution and aerial balls. Henderson is no different. I don't buy into it being a terrible weakness though.It hasn't cost us many goals or chances. I diagree that the Leeds and Stoke "mistakes" can be cut out for the reasons stated above. Leeds = occupational hazard. Stoke = walls faul, which is abundantly clear in the match video.

Hendo is 22 and playing for us.

He’s not going to be their first choice. If De Gea signs a new contract (which he probably will, this ‘going back to Madrid’ shit happens whenever he’s negotiating a new contract) then he’ll be there for at least another three years. He’s probably got a minimum of six years where he can still play at the highest level.

If he doesn’t sign a new deal, they’ll buy a new top class keeper, like Oblak.

I’m actually struggling to think of one first choice PL keeper that isn’t better than Hendo.

I love Hendo and he’s been a great signing but I don’t think he’s good enough yet for an England call up. He’s a great shot stopper and good with his feet but he worries me on crosses.

He's not encouraging all the youngsters, he's including the ones that are good enough or play in positions with little or no cover. I dont think Henderson falls into either bracket.

It's easy to forget that De Gea is amongst the best keepers in the world whereas Dean Henderson is a good championship keeper, as you point out
