That whole Golden Goal series has been great, delighted that we've been featured, and pretty surprised to be honest.

The author of the article, John Ashdown, is a Unitedite.

I played football with his dad (Pete) for many years in the South Yorkshire Amateur League.

I always remember Pete for a great phrase he had to cover the situation in which we commonly found ourselves whereby a (not very good) back four would be passing it among themselves, one to the other, under pressure from the opposition attack: "white-knuckle defending."

Come to think of it, it's something we see quite regularly at the Lane.

Reading that brings back memories and seems like yesterday . Whatever anybody says about long ball , hoof football , if truth be known , thoses days were happy days. Thinking back if Man Utd , Liverpool , Arsenal had hit some of the 40 yard paases that we did , then explayers , press , television would be drooling about it . Because it was unfashionable SUFC , we were tarnished , that we couldnt play football . Dean and Agana number of goals speak for themselves . Proud to be a blade , still am , but a bit of spit and polish , to make us shine again.

What's an elephant and a bee/wasp got to do with Christmas?

Or am I missing something?!

Probably Bob Booker's idea the Bee..!

Maybe it was still the time of the inflatables.

I'm guessing this was the best the club could find after asking the staff if they had any leftover Christmas decorations. It's very unfortunate that it also coincided with the infamous Christmas ballon shortage of Summer '92. Tough times.
