The end of the 2013/14 season has had a strange sense of euphoria and excitement around it for Sheffield United fans. Strange in so much as this was our lowest league finish for around two generations, yet due to the massive turnaround in form – from relegation certainties on the 1st of February to a…

Great piece. Cheers.

My main memries of that Cardiff game:

  • Their fans on coaches giving us (inc young kids) the throat cutting signs. Nice.

  • Loads of England shirts on display.

  • Mr Lester's goal. I was right in line with him. Amazing skill.

Any videos of that match doing the rounds? Love to see it again.

After the game there was a big dust up on MFI car park right near where I parked my car. I remember one young couple coming out after probably just having a Saturday afternoon looking for a new kitchen, turning round and running back in to the shop!

That Lester goal was wonderful - doesn't get talked of enough. Would be great to see a video if there are any out there?

The ref who gave us those two penalties was Mike Riley of Leeds who was never liked by the United fans - especially after the

game at West Ham a few years later.

Lovely piece. I was gonna write an article for this site if we got to the FA Cup final. I was gonna call it The Great FA Cup Final Swindle. Ah well.

The ref who gave us those two penalties was Mike Riley of Leeds who was never liked by the United fans - especially after the

game at West Ham a few years later.

I attended that game whilst suffering from tonsillitis which is not something I'd recommend as I came away with a splitting headache to go with my sore throat, made all the worse by spending the whole 90 minutes screaming at Riley.

Also as I stomped huffily back to Upton Park Station a West Ham fan came up beside me and said, "You've got to be pissed off with that!"

After I'd croaked my displeasure he went on to inform me that it was the worst refereeing display he'd ever seen, which coming from a fan of a team who had benefitted greatly from that very display was worth its weight in gold.

Ultimately of course, it sent us down (along with all the other 'ultimates' of that season).

As for the article itself I didn't attend the 3-2 Forest game or the 4-3 Notts County one, work getting in the way both times, but I was at all three of the others. In which case I'd replace them in my own Top 5 with the 5-2 at Leicester and the 6-3 away at Luton in 1994.

Brilliant article. That notts county game, when marcelo scored, what an unbelievable moment that was, absolute bedlam. There were loads of our fans rushing back into the ground quite a few in there end i may add.The looks on their faces,i don't think they have seen anyone go as bonkers as we did that day.I would really love to see this game again.

Thanks for the good feedback :-)

wizadry do you remember the Tranmere game that season too? Notts just was crazy as we seemed to have more than half the crowd. Forgot people rushing back in, that was brilliant when Marcelo scored, we were in the white kit, would love to see a vid of that too.

Awesome

Some good memories there. The County game was just bizarre - I didn't feel we played well at all but the dramatic nature if how it finished made it special.

The Cardiff game was bonkers. We played well, they played well, Nuddy was ridiculous, the Lester goal was a replica of Kabba's vs Forest though arguably more skillful. Didn't that game also happen the same week we beat Rotherham 5-1 or 5-0?

I'm somewhat surprised that the game we paired against Birmingham that finished 4-4 didn't make the list.

Sure we didn't win, but that was the most bonkers game I've ever seen.

It was a bizarre game, as was the 4 all against Exeter. However in both occasions we were pegged back by late equalisers that took the gloss off.

That Birmingham game was mad in that it went 0-2, 4-2, 4-4. Not so tupsy turvy, more of a game of three thirds! Taylor/Walker partnership was on fire that day.

What an absolutely fantastic read. I'm with you on the Brighton game, for some reason reading that brought a tear to my eye! :)

Thanks for the report.
