tbf we could make an individual thread for all of them off the back of that performance hightlighting how well they did however I just wanted to mention Long...

Granted he didn't have much to do but in what he did do, he did confidently and effectively. Showing signs of his potential again it seems.

Apart from the bit where he flew past Rooney, he was solid but had next to nothing to do.

I actually thought both he and Edgar did well to dive in but pull back their hands/legs at the last minute to avoid giving away a penalty.

The back 4 were generally very good. Maintain those high standards the next few months and we've got something to build on.

He did but should not be flying out if he's not going to get the ball (and he wasn't even close to achieving that). Only mentioned it because the Op said he had a good game when in truth he had very little to do.

I think the issue is pace. They had none until they brought subs on and then we started to look much less solid.Still backing off too much as well, we let Memphis shoot without challenge 3 times in a short space of time.

Was sound without being under too much pressure.

I don't get why he has to fall to the ground when making an easy catch - the ball will spill one day.

Back 4 in front of him were excellent tonight given the standard of opposition.

I think gk's do it to slow the game down. Particularly noticeable when under the kosh

He's a good lad but everyone in the world knows which way Rooney sends his pens. No-one can save em but at least dive the right fucking way!

It's a pet peeve of mine when keepers don't swot up on the opposition set-piece takers

I'll also add to my original comment that I thought Long kicked well.

He hardly even did anything. It was a good performance from the majority of the side in the main, but I think some are getting carried away with the praise now and losing all sense of what actually happened.

God forbid we praise the players eh Barney!

Could 'losing all sense of what actually happened' be ever levelled at you in some of the critisism you constantly pile on the manager and the team?

Clearly the OP Reedy has gone way over the top in his praise...........

Not at all, it's just the fact we've been playing absolutely abysmally in recent years has often meant that performances are portrayed by some as being better than they were. That's what watching poor football for a long time does to you, it clouds your better judgement.

Doesn't deserve his own thread. The only person who does is Basham and maybe Sammon but a negative one for him.

There's truth in that. We're so starved of decent football that we're quick to pin our hopes on any player who puts in a good shift.

I'd prefer to judge a player over at least half a season, and on the basis, Long looks a good prospect again having started with a big flop at Gills. Also, as Sitters says, he wasn't overawed yesterday, which given his seeming timidity, is a very good sign.

Must admit ,my pre match prediction of Long will freeze and cost us this when the teams came out was miles out. To be fair none of the players were over-rawed ,the occasion seemed to get to them more than us ,great credit to Adkins for preparing them.
