Silent Blade, great video mate. I was a Fulham supporter as a kid. My dad used to take me to matches regularly, but it was there that my affection for Sheffield United grew, so when I eventually moved to Sheffield in the '80s I was where I wanted to be football-wise. Seeing players like Bobby Robson, Allan Clarke, the great Johnny Haynes (Jimmy Greaves' favourite midfield player), Woodie, Shaw etc, it seems a world away from the modern game, and although money always played it's part, it hadn't affected the game in the way it has. I'll always be a Blade, and I'm looking forward to the cup-tie. Must also mention Frank Bough's commentary, his opinion of a great defence splitting pass by United was, "That's a good one", of course it was you wurzel-haired tripod! UTB
Can remember a couple of games v Fulham , christmas fixture away , settin off about about 6.30 half cut , we lost , and once at home with Best and Marsh playing for them beat them 2-1 , there has been more just those two stand out . UTB .

Fuck Ronaldo, he's a cheating diving lady-boy who wants ramming with an oversize marrow

When I read the first line , thought we were going to get a picture of you in all your glory fella .;) How disappointing .

Fulham had a player whose name is unusual and later managed them. Bedford Jezzard

When Best & Marsh (Bobby Moore too) played for Fulham against us at BDTBL, it was thee 1-1 draw in October 76. The 2-1 win in October 77, George Best was the only one out of the three that played for Fulham

Yes, you just wouldn't get a name like that these days, more's the pity.

They also had Alec Stock, who was the model that Paul Whitehouse used when he created Ron Manager.
I used to live close to Craven Cottage, and spent many a happy hour there with my dad. But once SUFC won my heart there was no turning back that was it. My dad thought I'd lost my marbles, but it was a done deal never to be returned to. It should explain the name I use on here.

Tell you what dublin, when you look back it always looks rosier and with good reason considering where we are now. Like the Blades, Fulham have had their share of decent to good players over the years. I saw Marsh while he was at Fulham as a youngster, then he moved to QPR, then Man City bought him and almost single-handedly Marsh turned a good team in to a poor one! I liked Rodney though, a maverick in many respects, but great skills when he felt like producing the goods.

At the latter end of his career Fulham also has the welsh winger Cliff Jones. His best days were at Spurs, but a gifted player in his day. They also had Malcolm Macdonald before selling him to, I think, Luton? Bobby Robson was the then manager and paid Tonbridge £1000 for him as a fullback, then Robson converted him to a forward and the rest is history, he played for Newcastle and Arsenal, and scored wherever he played.

I remember playing top trumps as a boy. Super Mac. was the highest transfer fee £333,000 from Newcastle to Arsenal I think?

I saw him play at Villa Park and he had very bandy legs. It looked like he had sh*t his shorts.

We beat them 2-0 at the Lane in the 3rd round in 1986, with 2 goals from Colin Morris, in front of the lowest crowd to see a cup game at Bramall Lane in the 20th century.

Our cup record against them is quite good, from memory. Most notably, they were the last team we beat in an FA Cup semi final (in 1936 of course).
Forgot about the '86 game..I was just thinking off the top of my head. Can't remember the '67 Cup game though that Silent posted up,great footage, and I remember a lot of those players from my early days at the Lane.
Allan Clarke and Mick Hill the scorers went on to be strike partners at that dirty team up the M1..I remember not being happy about Hill and Birchenall being sold.Soon got over it though with TC's arrival and the seasons after relegation.

Yeah especially when he played in the cup against us the bow legged fecker . Mind you that was some Arsenal team that walloped us that day .

Yes, what a memory, he was bow legged wasn't he?

As you say, a good to great Arsenal side, but it crossed my mind earlier how we've had the chance to build something special - can't think of the side, but it had Brown and McCall in midfield - and the desire to recognise what we had and build on it was absent. Not sure why that occurred to me, but we've had opportunities to take this club we all love by the scruff of the collar and give it a fighting chance in the upper echelons of English football. Wasn't that long ago either, so here we are, playing crappy football, against crappy sides, in a crappy division. How the moderately decent are humbled, but then I look at the guiding light(s) at the top of this club, even their predecessors, and there hasn't been one amongst them who appears to have had a clue what they're doing. Sorry dublin, as that thought came my way I just thought of what could have been compared to what is.
I hope I'm wrong, I hope the Prince is a catalyst to better times, and no one has posted more about having an over-view than myself. It's just that we've had the opportunity before and what have we done with it? Old Kevin doesn't have the resources to buy the quality of player we need, so maybe his 'game changing' comment was meant to suggest that he's relieved it's no longer his responsibility to fend off reasons why he has to invest in the team. We are in a sorry state fella, and I just hope NC brings in a couple of half-decent players who can give us the lift we desperately need. UTB
