My first choice in the next round was Macclesfield, but out of Fulham and Norwich, I'd prefer Fulham.

They're two nil up now so it's looking good as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like there could be an upset at Hillsbrough too, Pigs are winning 1-0 !

I was in the away end at Fulham on Saturday. Neither team played well - the margin was only so high in Sunderland's favour due to dreadful defending and questionable goalkeeping. I think we're in with a chance against Fulham.

So we get Fulham at Bramall Lane ont 25th January then int F.A Cup.

I enjoyed some of the read ups from the S24SU Statmaticians regarding our track record against Villa therefore should you lot wish to add a few more then please do as I would be most grateful for the read.

The last time we played Fulham at BDTBL we beat em 2-0 and the goalscorers were Tonguey and no other than Jon Stead (omen what with the rumour?)

What we got to add people other than doom and gloom? We can separate this from the league troubles and enjoy it surely?

To be honest, if we don't beat Bradford I won't be going. It's hard to separate this season.

The dam awful time for this just puts me off. 1pm on a Sunday. Grim.

One day a football club will stand up to the dam TV people and say............NO. Our fans and tradition come first, shove off.

Wishful thinking. :(

and in case you haven't seen in the other thread:

Adults £15
Season Ticket Holders & Concessions £10
Kids (12 & Under) £5
Brilliant! That's exactly what I said. Mr Phipps is clearly listening to me...

Can we please sign Ronaldo from Madrid :)

Fuck Ronaldo, he's a cheating diving lady-boy who wants ramming with an oversize marrow

HH I'm with y0u on this . Tradition for me at any rate is a great part of football.
Whilst I would like to look ahead to better things, I have constant reminders. Family reminiscences going right back to when and where it all started. My own Grandfather was a mate of Billy Faulke, I was brought up with his versions of how Needham Thicket and Boyle performed.
Sadly after the 1936 cup final, he saw the light and jacked it in.
That left my late, ever optimistic Dad, and me. Dad has gone to the Great Blades Home in the sky. He passed, on his way home from our 2-i win over Oxford United in 1990. Me? Coffin dodger that I am, I think that Nigel will sort it. FFS Hurry up Nige.;)

TV is now even usurping the police - aka Newcastle / Sunderland. Not sure which is worst / best? You tell the cops to F off as they have no right to tell you when to play and the fans are being inconvenienced but we all know it's really because of the TV and associated money that they've done it.

I went Cottaging last night. Was in the away end with the Naaridge fans. Pretty depressing place to be. And they started so well, forcing the keeper into a good save and hitting the bar after what, 5, 10 minutes?

I thought Fulham were just ordinary, really. Neat and tidy, did the basics well, kept a reasonable shape and slowly took over the midfield. Their goals were all pretty simple and as much due to Norwich being poor at the back as anything. On that showing, we don't have much to fear, and I can;t imagine them putting out a stronger side against us - if anything they might weaken it.

Bring them on.

I went in the Chicken Cottage on High Holborn last night and was highly disappointed to find that everyone in there was middle aged, fat and heterosexual. They also expected me to buy food!

:o Yeah, right :)

You have watched us this year haven't you MoDDers?

I believe that we would have lost to Villa if the tie had been played at Bramall Lane as we would have been picked off on the counter. Can't see us creating enough against Fulham now - especially with our lot buring up and down the pitch in their mobility scooters :(

Can't remember meeting Fulham in the Cup before...the game that is etched in my mind all those years ago is the old Division 1,3-2 defeat at the Lane having been 2 up,and we were as good as relegated...broke my heart that did..think it was Alan Clarke with a Hattrick if my memory isn't playing tricks.
Fancy us to turn them over though. UTB!

I didn't say we were any good, I just said that I wasn't particularly impressed with Fulham! You see 3-0 and you think "wow, they must have played pretty well" but I just felt that Norwich were terrible.

Even though we will be at home, do you not think that they will be the ones under pressure to break us down? They will be heavy favourites. There will be no pressure on us at all.

I know we've got our own relegation worries, but so have they.I wonder if the fact that they've got Swansea away 2 days later followed by Southampton at home on the 1 st will help us..they will be more worried about the League...same could be said of us Ofcourse.

We do it the other way around. We play our strongest 11 in the cup, then rest 'tired' players for a vital league games.

On that video along with your Uncle Ron - at around 6:17 when they show Blades celebrating Mick Jones goal. We were stood on the rails at the back, me on the right with parka. Thirteen years old and wandering the streets of London until midnight after the game. Them were t'days :)

Yes he is thee one waving his scarf across his chest. He told me he was worried that he may lose his balance and fall over the back of where he was standing which had a big drop!

Strange how the last few years have been very forgettable but I remember this game all too well. I was only a young 'un but following a muck and nettles team just seemed the right thing to do. We were never going to be the best but so what, being a Blade was always more than just following a football team. Always told my son, anybody can be a pig but you have to be born a Blade.

We beat them 2-0 at the Lane in the 3rd round in 1986, with 2 goals from Colin Morris, in front of the lowest crowd to see a cup game at Bramall Lane in the 20th century.

Our cup record against them is quite good, from memory. Most notably, they were the last team we beat in an FA Cup semi final (in 1936 of course).

More than good, Fulham have never beaten us in any cup competition !

FA Cup
21-Mar-36 Fulham v Sheffield United W 2-1
22-Jan-66 Sheffield United v Fulham W 3-1
18-Feb-67 Fulham v Sheffield United D 1-1
01-Mar-67 Sheffield United v Fulham W 3-1
13-Jan-86 Sheffield United v Fulham W 2-0

League Cup
13-Sep-61 Fulham v Sheffield United D 1-1
25-Sep-61 Sheffield United v Fulham W 4-0
07-Sep-71 Sheffield United v Fulham W 3-0

The game I remember is the 3-1 win in 1966. I'm pretty sure this is when the Bramall Lane end was being dismantled prior to building the stand.

The Fulham fans were so pissed off they built a bonfire from the wood that was lying around !

Health and Safety ? I miss that era of football.

FA Cup 4th round match in 1967

Silent Blade, great video mate. I was a Fulham supporter as a kid. My dad used to take me to matches regularly, but it was there that my affection for Sheffield United grew, so when I eventually moved to Sheffield in the '80s I was where I wanted to be football-wise. Seeing players like Bobby Robson, Allan Clarke, the great Johnny Haynes (Jimmy Greaves' favourite midfield player), Woodie, Shaw etc, it seems a world away from the modern game, and although money always played it's part, it hadn't affected the game in the way it has. I'll always be a Blade, and I'm looking forward to the cup-tie. Must also mention Frank Bough's commentary, his opinion of a great defence splitting pass by United was, "That's a good one", of course it was you wurzel-haired tripod! UTB
