Derby County manager Billy Davies has confirmed his liking for Sheffield United pair Michael Tonge and Claude Davis.

Davies is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of next season following Derby's promotion to the Premiership.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, have admitted they may have to let players go after they were relegated from the top flight, so that their wage bill is structured to the Championship.

Jamaican defender Davis played under Davies at Preston and the manager is keen to work with him again.

And Blades midfielder Tonge also caught Davies' eye with some impressive performances this season.

"Both are good players and I like them," he said.

I thought the majority had in their contracts, a clause to restructure their wages in the event of relagation. It was said players would have to go and some have been released, some put on the transfer list. These are not going to save us millions, but given the circumstances I thought it would have been enough not to sell players like Tonge and Davis.

Exactly.. they have to look at the bigger picture, they will get more games with us tonge definately and also if robbo brings in a few good players like some of the rumours flyin around, we have a great chance of going straight back up and stayin up.

Davis wouldnt bother me if he went i think Lucketti is better than him anyway.
I wouldnt like to see Tonge go as he has hit form again of late.

I think Davis deserves more praise than what hes getting. He's our record signing, and thats for a reason. Without him at the back we will lose the only pace we hold their. I do feel we could of had more from him regarding attacking set pieces yet in the championship, I feel he would look a better player.

It's a shame everything didn't go well for Davis, but his early games for us especially were good games for him, hopefully we'll see a better Claude next season, his pace is essential as the pace of our defence in the promotion season wasn't too good when Morgan and Short played together.
