"So to all the friends I made in the International Bar I say a sad farewell, the club have decided I am surplus to requirements so I shan't be with you again.Weve had some great times and some fabulous guests and many many laughs.I wish all of you the very best of luck and give Chris Wilder all the support you can.Its been emotional..UTB.xx"

I know things change and nothing stays the same, but that stinks. I thought it was one of the few things they were getting right last season and it was great to see the blasts from the past along with kids for the future being wheeled in from time to time. The way Derek 'hosted' the place was great with positivity and humour (read cheeky cynicism).

He'll be missed,

He was a bit controversial tho at times last year. I know circumstances probably made him so but anyone representing the club should be impartial.

Yeah, it's a funny one, isn't it? Imagine if he'd been so openly vocal when he was physio.

Trouble is, so were many fans last year and we "represent the club" everywhere we go . I liked his style and I think his 'controversial' moments may have pacified some of the more vocal fans from time to time.

I take your point though.

Surplus to requirements !!!

What an absolute crock of shit !! Frenchy did a great job of being the link between the club and fans on game day. Good banter mostly, and always said it how it was IMO.

Yes the beers a bit steep, but it's a decent family bar on match day "made" by Frenchie and his guests and tall tales, and dodgy Microphone..

I don't think his comments would be the reason because the applause they got validated his opinion also because one a hell of a lot of blades were feeling the same, as it seems the owners shared that view it's unlikely that's the reason... Either way I won't be going in now, I'll be back in the sheaf... Bob Booker described last seasons play as poofs football, that got a loud cheer, not very pc, but it was wasn't it....

He's gutted by the look of things..

I like Derek but at £4.00 per pint they could afford to get Chubby Brown in to do a turn before the games.

Nothing stopping him doing it in another pub if he really loves what he does/did. I know he won't be able to do certain things but he can still chat with fans, tell stories before the games etc...

I agree with this completely, it was great having Frenchie in the bar before the games.

Can we start a petition to have him back?

UTB and BBF (Bring Back Frenchie)

Boycotted interbar since, and will continue to do so.Ridiculous to say he was controversial? I was there every game with him and he said nothing. He built that bar up to a decent crowd from nothing, and because of penny pinching they tell someone who loves the club over the phone hes surplus to rewuirements? Pathetic.Ashamed of united commercial.See how much down they are this season on a matchday.Lot of people love Derek, wont go in ever again out of loyalty,me included. But of course loyalty isnt something the club recognises since jim left. How many actually come over on a matchday? None. The pittance they save goes toward their free meals and wine in the platinum suite.Disgusted

Perhaps then Blades fans will boycott the 'International Bar' then the club may do something like reinstate Frenchie but if truth be told Blades 'fans' don't do boycotts because they can't be arsed !
Come down to the Queens Club Frenchie and do your bit perhaps a much more appreciative audience and the beer is much cheaper - Cheapskates United !!!

If rumour is correct, was our Derek less than complimentary about certain aspects of the club ?

Quick to point out just how much our underperforming staff were paid and questioning their worth ?

Extremely critical (and that's putting it mildly) of the manager ?

In this ambassadorial type role, Mr French appears to have lost himself and allowed himself to be a fan, and a rather angry one at that.

Dress it up anyway you like, that sort of behaviour is unacceptable and will inevitably end it tears.

Hung himself.

Unfortunately Sheffield United FC have a very small club mentality in several aspects Personally I don't have an issue with a club employee who cares passionately about the club however we are the other way with so many 'hangers on' that don't give a shit !

But he's not wrong...He's only saying what the rest of us think!

Us fans want to engage with people that feel so passionately about the club, and that is why the Inter Bar was a decent place to be (apart from the prices).

As an employee of the club, he was bang out of order. Which led to the inevitable parting of the ways.

The accuracy of his comments, in this context, is an irrelevance.

Went in last home game, bar was rammed and I didn't bother getting a drink, not under protest or anything like that, just would have taken ages.... so any ban isn't hurting them.

You can cut down on the knobhead factor 100% in there regarding trouble, which is always welcome when you've got the kids with you, can't really say that for any pub close to the ground..

On another note, frenchy is in the cricks just before kick off most home games.. if you wanna say hello..

I wonder if Elsie, the kit-washer from the Jurassic period, goes in the Cricketers? Does the club doctor from 1971 pop in to the International Bar for a Scotch?

I've seen some parochial s2 garbage on here over the years but this is special.

As for where the former physio drinks before the match, I'll pop in when my neck's aching, as it did regularly when his mate was manager...

Absolutely right.

If I want to know anything about SUFC I'll be sure to ask one of Bassett's hangers-on...or maybe my local chiropractor.
