Nick Montgomery was born in Tanzania to English parents. Their plane crashed in the jungle when they were returning home after missionary work when young Nick was only a baby, and he was raised by apes until being found, aged five, by David Attenborough who was filming a documentary about the African Lesser Spotted Tree Turtle.

The young ape-boy, who went by the name Umdlali Wasesiswini (Zulu-"Player") was returned to the UK where social services wondered where he could live that would most easily replicate his former jungle home, living amongst chimps. Naturally they picked Leeds as it too is a harsh jungle populated by knuckle-draggers with only a very tenuous grip on humanity and a small degree of use of human languages, and it was felt that a five year old ape-boy would stand out as too advanced in Barnsley.

He was adopted by a Scottish couple who had moved to Leeds to open an Edinburgh Castle Rock shop, and his name was changed from Umdlali to Nick, and he took their surname of Montgomery as it was felt that would help him integrate back into human society.

Definite proof that Monty was born in Africa, or at least raised by chimps, despite what the club may tell us.
