As much as I love DB and his write ups, Flynn would need to score a hat trick and create a further three goals for him to even register a 7 with our resident reporter!
yeah me too. seeing as he's played at least 50 games for us and one good one then he still owes us at least 49.. he might even get himself a song

I think more accurately, on Saturday we KNEW the kind of game we wanted to play. That has been sadly lacking this season.

Saying our type of game is suited to the Premier league is crazy in my opinion. We played ever so well, but we scored a deflected Murphy strike and a left foot Ryan Flynn wonder goal. How often do you think those will happen? This was a one off, top performance - it doesn't make us suddenly have a style suited to the Premier League. It was the right tactics down to the letter, but a decent team would still have hammered us.

I think you're wrong. I think Flynn is the new Messi and we could be in the Champions League this season, stacking out the Bernabau, with Barcelona on the back foot not knowing what to do with our mazy winger as he turns their flank inside and out, sending cross after cross over for our devsatating strikeforce of Chris Porter to smash past the hapless keeper. We could easily see Michael 'Micky' Doyle hoisting the giant trophy aloft and the red and white stripes being worn by kids across the planet, with 'FLYNN' emblazoned proudly across the back, GCB being sung in classrooms from Buenos Aires to Bejing and copies of When Satdi Comes being traded on eBay for hundreds of lira.

Aye.

Says a lot about peoples perception of a player when he follows two Player Ratings man of the match awards, with another good performance and winning goal...

Yet because of it, he's in the spotlight and criticised :)

I still maintain (as I have throughout) that there is a player in Flynny. A player with limitations yes (that's why we could sign him at the time and he wasn't snapped up by someone higher), but get him confident and play him in the right way, and he's a good player.

As well as the goal and a more effective performance going forwards, I've not seen many mention the work he put in the other way... He spent an awful lot of time watching the winger and at the same time looking over his left shoulder to track the movements of Benteke... If Benteke ran, he left his winger and tracked Benteke, leaving McMahon to hold his position.

It was a nice change to see a right footed player being played down the right wing as well.

OK he cut in and scored a great goal with his standing foot and Murphy scored his by cutting in from the left (although that was always his strength at Motherwell if the vids are anything to go by) but has anyone else noticed that now Flynn is being played down the right he is more prepared to take on fullbacks on the outside again? Clough may have been instructing this (as opposed to other managers dictating the opposite) but I also think that it's because Flynn is confident that he can deliver a cross with his right foot once he gets half a yard on the defender and he gets the chance to battle one on one with an opponent with his full armory.
