Felipe Micael

The Prince owns Beerschot as well as us so I'm quite happy to see him including Blades options in these deals. Unlikely we'll ever take any of them up, but if one of their players ends up shining we'll be first in the queue.

:fattwat:👀🔍 A certain blubbering mound of journalist would be watching this like an obese hawk.

Translated from Walfoot.be

Beerschot has announced the arrival of Brazilian striker Felipe Micael from FC Mirassol. The 18-year-old favoured the Beerschot track while clubs like Flamengo and Santos were interested in him.

Micael impressed in Brazil by becoming a formidable goalscorer. Coming from the city of Sao Paulo, the striker's talent has not escaped one of the legends of Brazilian football, Cafu. The two-time World Cup winner describes Micael as a future talent: "Felipe has shown that he has many qualities and is a warrior. I'm sure he'll make it."

The Brazilian will undoubtedly be one of the players to follow in D1B. Beerschot announced that it had made a substantial investment to attract the player.

We don't get work permits for these guys, however loaning them to third party clubs (like Chelsea do with Vitesse), gives them a chance of being eligible further down the line.

The fact he's now playing in Belgium used to mean that after 3 years of work he'd be eligible for dual nationality and would therefore not need a work permit to make the move to England.

Brexit could change the way stuff like that works so we'll have to see how that affects us if this is the start of a grander plan to take young, promising South American players to Belgium for work permit reasons. Interesting move, either way.

Or maybe they’re signing him because PA wants his other club to be successful too.

Well yeah, of course. But he wouldn't be a savvy businessman if he didn't include an option for his young investment to join his premier club if his spell is successful.

Clubs have used Belgian feeder teams in the past to circumvent work permit restrictions due to their lower limits for how long you have to be working in the country before acquiring dual nationality. Man Utd used to use Antwerp so they could get permits for non EU nationals (Dong Fangzhou, anyone remember him?) so I'm just saying it's interesting that Prince has signed an 18 year old Brazilian player and put a Blades related clause in it given the likely difficulties in getting a work permit for a player like him without him having some form of European dual nationality.

Belgium may well have tightened up their requirements by now which would make this point redundant - just thought it interesting.

He may already have a Portuguese passport ?

WTF, a plan let alone a”grander plan” are not things you usually read about Sheffield United
It's pure speculation on my part but it does seem a big fee for a Belgian second division team to be paying for an 18 year old when they could've spent that money more efficiently on players who could help them immediately with their promotion challenge. Just makes me think it's been done with one eye on our future.

Maybe our owners know something we dont about the way the FA plan on ensuring the PL continues to bring top talent to the league following Brexit.
Well Prince Abdullah and his “team” have proved to be pretty shrewd cookies so far, ask Kev

This is a fact not a rumour, more would see on main board ....

But it's a rumour that he's gone to them so that he could come to us in the future

Similar to Chengdu blades and other McCabe ventures ran out of steam when the property assets had been stripped??
