The lardy Hammer actually says he prefers the Lane to S6 as a ground but thinks the WC represents an opportunity for Hillsbro to put the disaster behind it.
And surprisingly enough he has a dig at McCabe's legal threat.

Stay out of court, McCabe

What is the most charming character trait of Kevin McCabe, chairman of Sheffield United? Probably his sense of entitlement. Now he is planning a court battle over the decision of the 2018 bid committee to favour Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday, and not his own Bramall Lane, as a World Cup venue.

I prefer United’s ground, too, but we have to accept that if any body has the right to decide on World Cup stadiums, it is the World Cup organisers. And considering that Hillsborough, once a fine venue with a grand history, is now only associated in most minds with a tragic April afternoon in 1989, is this not an opportunity for renewal, a chance to give the place some fresh memories, untainted by human failure, frailty and loss?

Hiroshima is the most football-centric city in Japan, but the World Cup did not go there in 2002 because the organisers feared negative association with its past. In doing so, they missed a wonderful opportunity, not to forget, but to allow the present in some small way to break free of history. This is what the World Cup could achieve for Hillsborough; always providing it can resist the self-serving machinations of the litigious McCabe.

He just can't help himself, can he?

Perhaps he'd be better looking closer to home and seeing that his own fans have been found guilty of two Football Association charges of failing to control their fans after violence

We go to court to fight for whats right, his mob go there with blood on their knuckles

If he thinks that is a reason then why wasn't he lobbying for the Germans to flatten Dachau concentration camp and build a football stadium when they held the World Cup? More than 25,000 died there.

That would of course be the same fans the FA didn't want to punish when they found out West Ham were in fact lying bastards.

Quite right Shorehamview. On that thinking and considering that the next European championships are in Poland and Ukraine. Does that mean he wants a game in Auschwitz and Chernobyl?

Its been a while I didnt know that fat sod was still writing with his crayon.

Wouldn't let it bother you Bladesman.
He got it so spectacularly wrong on Tevez and failed miserably when it came to holding the footballing authorities to account.
But then having a go at United instead of the FA or the Premier League is so much easier.

You would of thought he would think twice slagging off someone who takes people to court and wins.

A chance to put the disaster behind it? Didn't that already happen at Euro 96'?

That end of Hillsborough should have been totally levelled, not just renovated on the cheap, in the summer of 1989. I feel for Liverpool fans who have had to watch their club in essentially the same building that claimed 96 of their own.

I don't say this as a cheap pop at Wendy - I think their South Stand is great stadium architecture - but there's no excuse for Leppings Lane to still be standing.

Quite right Shorehamview. On that thinking ...

Seconded. What kind of selection criterion is that? It'd be like holding interviews for a job and giving it not to the best qualified person, but to the one who had the worst childhood.
