Hello everyone...

For a final year university project I am researching how well aware Sheffield United fans are about the companys plastered across their shirts.

In order to do this, could you spare 30 seconds to fill out this simple survey?

http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=g04gm8sr0cs3int133646

It would be greatly appreciated and contribute to growing knowledge whether fans notice (or care) about the sponsors of their club.

Thanks

You have duplicated a question. I suspect #13 is meant to say Redtooth. I have certainly answered it as if it were.

Yes I noticed that soon after posting, but it won't allow me to edit the question now that I have responses. Apoligies for this, but i'm sure the quick witted of you will get what it's supposed to say.

Thanks for responses so far, greatly appreciated, keep them coming!

I don't ow exactly how the universities mark stuff, but if you use the answers to a question worded incorrectly I would expect them to slaughter you for it.

You would be better to start over in my humble opinion...

Just doing your surveys in mid-April?? Cutting it fine much?! :)

Filled it out anyway.

I have already carried out a survey using the same questions (accurately typed) around the ground on a matchday so have a fair population already. Just trying to bump up my numbers with an online survey as well.

I will consult my tutor but at worst, i'd imagine i'd just have to ignore the results inputted for that question and class them as void and use the rest of the results.

Can you perhaps add the correct question at the end and delete (or disregard) the duplicate?

Sorted it now guys, the software has just deleted all previous responses for that question. So from now on, they'll be what i'm after.

Appreciate the help.

Completed...although I always wonder what social segment I should put myself in....

Just done it for you. I couldn't very well not do it after nagging all and sundry on here to fill mine I'm (in general chat, if anybody's missed it!)

Thanks for all the responses and comments everyone. Really appreciate it. Some interesting stuff coming out of it so far.

Keep them coming, only going to leave it open until tomorrow morning, just to catch anyone coming on here to talk about the game tonight.

I'm always moaning about shirt manufacturers and sponsors.

For example...

Why do we get Macron & 2 Local Firms yet Leyton Orient get Nike & Samsung.

If somebody could actually shed some light on what the cost implications are (people that are actually ITK).

I think you have to pay out for your merchandise for the shop and obviously Nike are more expensive than Macron... However, i would think they would sell more merchandise if they had Nike/Adidas/Umbro.

e.g.

I would buy this - http://www.orient-clubshop.co.uk/product/expr-polo-shirt-adult-1680

But definately not this - http://www.sufcdirect.co.uk/39_Macr...1676_Adult-Cotton-Piquet-Polo-1213-White.html

Would they? Maybe Sheffield has changed since I lived there 24 years ago, but my experience of Sheffield folk is that price is more important to them than having a poncey brand name....

No ITK style figures, but it shouldn't be a drastic surprise to you that it's down to economics. They were the people who would pay us most to be involved with Sheffield United.

OOOOhhhhhh, be careful of mixed mode effects! I hope you used exactly the same questions for your face to face survey and the online one. Might want to mention that to your tutor and look out of for any effects in your two 'sub samples'.

Poncey brand names? The three mentioned are renowned for quality and durability. I think that provides more value than cheap tat

Yeah, it has all been pre-discussed. They are carbon copy questions just a different mode of collection.

From my short experience of dealing with kit deals, I know there are different deals to be had. For large teams such as Man Utd, Nike invest in them, so Nike pay Man Utd a fee to use their badge on all their apparel, then Nike obviously keep the money from shirt sales (or atleast a cut) due to Man Utd's popularity, they make a large return on investment.

I'm not sure if this is the case with SUFC, as they will sell shirts, but would they provide a significant return on investment to warrant Nike's money (and image). It may be a case of Sheffield United simply using Macron as a maker of their shirts, and therefore would be cost-effective as opposed to having to buy 10,000 Nike replica shirts at cost-price to sell at £40. The margins would be a lot greater with Macron, than with Nike. Hope this helps...

I can't think of anywhere except football (and spectator sports) where such little changes to a 'safe' design have people clambering to buy.

Whether its Man U, Madrid or Mansfield, kits don't change that much but were dished up a new version year on year. And fans buy it.

I've found out tonight that red tooth who I've never heard of, sponsor us! If I'd been pressed on the subject I'd still say it was Malta that sponsored us, but thinking about it I remember gilders and someone else sponsoring the shirts in recent years... But red tooth? I'll have to keep an eye out when I download a programme.

Ive liked the design of our kit this season, but didnt buy it because it wasnt that far away from kits we've had in the last few years, sponsors seem to change more than the kits nowadays, I used to like Lavers and Wards as they were long term sponsors and local.

S'on the away shirt.

I would love it if we lived in a world where sponsorship was not needed, and we could have a beautiful, plain, red and white striped shirt with the city coat of arms on it. Just like that 74-75 kit. Perfect.
