With some clubs fielding weakened sides in the FA Cup, saving their best players for the league, I wonder what Blades fans would choose. To win the FA cup or to obtain / retain Premier league status.
Obviously the Premier league would bring greater riches, however I personally would rather win the FA cup. A little pie in the sky perhaps but maybe worthy of debate?

Complete pie in the sky. We're out of the cup, well and truly stuck in a relegation battle and if we're still in this division next season it'll be a grand achievement, looking any where beyond that would be complete folly. We're in the shit, no point in dreaming at the moment!

Got out of the wrong side of the bed today?

There's no point in debating anything then. Let's all go and shoot ourselves.

You can go first.:D

I had agreat dream last night,- No Iam not telling you what it was about!
How sad the pie muncher's depressed.

For the record Mr William Large, FA cup, because we aint gonna win the prem but a bit of glory besides the occational promotion would be great. Good thread by the way.

Don't let it descend into a row over the first reply because its a decent question this.

Based on the fact we'll surely be in the top division again in my lifetime I would have to go for the FA cup, as we probably wont do that in my lifetime and haven't since 1925. losing semi-finals have been amazing days watching United, imagine a winning final.

Phew, thank goodness for that. Your masturbatory fantasies are probably best kept to yourself ;)

Did it involve Len answering a question Boo?? Fleety used to have that one, and so did Dazzler.

When I was younger I would have said the Premier League/Premiership, no question. But not now. When I'm old I'd like to look back and bore everyone about the day we won the Cup. You win the cup and no one can take that away from you.

Winning the FA Cup would be the one I'd choose. I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with the premier.

I'd rather the FA Cup, Premier League is becoming more and more of a clique favouring the big boys, so fuck em :D

FA Cup everytime, without question for me. The glory would be unimaginable, wembley decked out with 30000 Blades singing, pig fans stuck in Sheffield forced to watch our achievement, and then the opportunity to ram it down their throats at every opportunity. An open top bus parade around Sheffield and enough DVD specials in the club shop to fill a battleship.

Incidentally, the dream run for me would be:

Round Three - Leeds
Round Four - Arsenal
Round Five - West Ham
Quarter Final - Pigs on their own muckheap
Semi Final - Forest
Final - Liverpool (we win in stoppage time with a goal that is 5 yards offside, just like Peschisolido v palace)

Anyway, we can dream can't we?

I almost agree but mine is:
Round Three - Forest
Round Four - Chelsea
Round Five - West Ham
Quarter Final - Pigs on their own muckheap
Semi Final - Leeds
Final - Liverpool (we win in stoppage time with a goal that is 5 yards offside, just like Peschisolido v palace)

whichever - I would accept no Premiership for such a run.

An FA Cup win for me.

Sunderland 1973, Coventry 1987, Wimbledon 1988, Sheffield United 2012

Imagine having one of the great FA Cup Final wins that means the name Sheffield United become synonymous with a certian year.

I'd also like to put a European jaunt down on my wishlist. Doesn't have to be anywhere posh or fancy, but just somewhere competing in Europe and the accompanying trip that comes with it that become a good memory for life.

Winning something or promotion? Given we've won nowt since God was a nipper, surely no contest...

Premiership. What is the FA Cup worth really? So we can say "We've won sommat" to the piggies. Well, we could just as easy say we're in the Premiership. A few years in the Premiership can attract players to the club far easier than the FA Cup, and along with them stability and success. It's all about the long term.

"Come sit on Grandpa's knee. I want to tell you about the time we won the FA Cup... what's that..? yes, we were still shit over the course of the full season, and we had to sell all our best players after a half a season out of the academy, and yes, I know nothing's changed, but look... we played at Wembley. And we won."

Sorry, I'd rather have our team full of competent players than win 6 games.

be nice to beat Liverpool in the last minute with a penalty awarded for 'intent to foul'. That would make up for that decision on the first day of the '06 season.

I'm with you Yoss, if it was a choice between staying in the premier league or the FA Cup i'd take the Premier league every time.

Errr... Yes. Exactly.

:)

Another two, maybe three at most, dreary seasons in the Premiership battling relegation compared to an FA Cup final win that will live forever in the memory of all Blades fans and the biggest party Sheffield has ever seen. No contest. I used to think the same as you up until I hit thirty!

Funny, until I hit thirty I would have probably have agreed with your current stance. Since then, I've been thinking more long-term stability over quick one-off.
