FA charges

Fair play, deadbat, of course the discipline could be far better. However, there's no doubt in my mind that there is a vendetta against the football club. People will think I'm mad, crazy, paranoid, whatever, but I believe it to be true.

Watching the video again, after being at the matches, I think the charges are probably fair enough. However, after the performance of the officials v Norwich, I think there was something seriously wrong somewhere along the line.

What did Holt do? I know he dived for the pen and had a bit of a tussle with Quinn where he shoved him and then quinn lashed out at him but outside of the highlights did he punch or headbutt a Blades player? Just wondered as I was not there and interested to waht really happened. Shame FA only does act on their own selected highlights (basically whatever film tbhey have). It seems clear they have looked at both incidents on vidoe and then someone has seen Reid and said oh we better do somthing about that.

Mind you even if Holt was suspended how would that help Reid who stupidly butted Chris Martin?

We need to look closer to home. Maybe we are being treated hearshly but if we dont get ourselvves into stupid situations then we cannot get sent off/banned. It is not as if all the reds this season have been awful decisions. Indeed if I look at all our red cards you can see justification for most of them and the fact the club has appealed none of them says it all;

Lowton, yes there was no real intent but was late and high and probably deserved.
Ward, idiotic. Came in stupidly and a really dangerous lash out. Missed his man but a a definite red.
Bogdanovic, thought this was slightly harsh but again he was high and scrpaed his foot down his man. Even Speed said he could see why it was a red.
Cresswell, Late and wild. Definite red as even he has admitted in the programme since.
Quinn, once again may not have made much contact but why out your head into someone like that? Just asking for trouble.

Noone in the FA has told those individuals above to put in stupid challenges that have in most cases left the referee with no option.

He was generally a cheating tart all the match, but I'm refering specifically to the convienient coming together with Quinny after the whistle had been blown. There isn't a chance in hell that would have been ignored/been seen as him chasing the ball down had that been Hendo or Cresswell.

Mind you even if Holt was suspended how would that help Reid who stupidly butted Chris Martin?

It wouldn't in the slightest, I'm just expressing my opinion that it'd have been seen differently had it been Hendo or Cresswell.

We need to look closer to home.

We certainly do and I totally agree. We should channel the aggression caused by our percieved unfair treatment by officials into making sure we beat the opposition scoring goals, rather than having a pop.

Lowton, yes there was no real intent but was late and high and probably deserved.

You can indeed understand it being given after the apparent clamp down. I'd be absolutely fine with that if I hadn't regularly seen worse and more dangerous challenges against us go unpunished.

Ward, idiotic. Came in stupidly and a really dangerous lash out. Missed his man but a a definite red.

I said from the stands as he warmed up that it would be stupid to bring him on and that he'd get himself sent off. Bit naive of Gary Speed on that one in my opinion.

Quinn, once again may not have made much contact but why out your head into someone like that? Just asking for trouble.

Again, I agree loosely with the point. But in context at least 4/5 players did the same, if not worse than Quinny. In my opinion it was a case of the referee getting his own back after Quinny showed his anger earlier in the game from yet another totally incorrect decision by the man in the middle. I'm half sure the Lino told the ref he'd thrown a punch also. Like I said before, in real time, you could see clear daylight between them both and it was clear to anyone watching it live that it was the most blatent piece of acting you'll ever see in an attempt to get him into trouble.

Yes we shouldn't give them the opportunity, but likewise, players should be retrospectively punished for play acting/blatently cheating. If we can do it for violent conduct, why can't we do it for obvious examples of this?

It's not even neccessarily the key decisions that are annoying me at the moment, it's the culmination of decisions that are utterly astounding to anyone watching the game. They have a hard job and will make mistakes, it's understandable, but this season has been diabolical so far in terms of officiating.

Bar the odd incorrect throw-in/goal kick, it seems firmly stacked to our detriment too. If only they were consistantly crap for both teams.

That just about sums it up for me. The officiating has been appalling all year. The shirt pulling by Norwich players was also missed by the officials all game. Ok, so the ref will miss from time to time, he's not perfect. But things like the shirt pulling are, for me, unforgivable.

>it was them that actually reversed the premieeagues 3 wrong decisions
yeah but they didn't like it .. it was only because it was the legal thing to do.. they've been on our case ever since.. back to conspiracies.. if a small team play a big team have you noticed that the star player of the small team is ALWAYS suspended from the game before??

foxy/linz.. while your are feeling artistic could you possibly knock up an alan woodward avatar to take its rightful place.. thanks:thumbup:

I wouldn't be surprised if quinny gets another ban.

What's up with him? Did he not get the presents he asked for?

Firstly, he's a short-arse. Are you not familiar with Small Bloke Syndrome? Small Bloke Syndrome means sufferers tend to be the first to kick off, because they are constantly annoyed about their height, or indeed lack of, and therefore have a hatred of those taller than themselves.

Secondly, he's ginner. As Keenzy will testify, ginners can be a bit feisty too. :D

Thirdly, he's from a family with a history of Red Mist Descent. Alan and his strops, anyone?

So basically he's a short-arsed ginner Irishman. A kind of "lit and fizzing firework" sort of a chap. Sooner or later the firework goes off, and usually quite spectacularly.

The standards of officials all round have been nothing short of shite this season, for one instant look at Mark Attwell (that young one) has made some very piss poor decisions in a multitude of games, yet he's still Reffing in the top two divisions. I think the reason we are seeing such a poor quality of referees this season comes down to a few things:

1) The FA are rushing people through courses as they are in dire need of Refs on all levels.
2) Confusion with the rules, Minimal Contact and Intent should be stripped from the rule booking, as ineffect this is promoting the chance for players to dive. Seriously the rule basically says fall over and while a player has stuck a leg out and you'll get a free kick. Plus the rules are really indepth and quite difficult to understand.
3) The FA and other governing bodies are failing to clamp down on cheating. Technology is a must and this could really help.
4) Referees aren't held accountable and I think this also fits in with there shortage of Ref's.

As Foxy and Deadbat says our players need a good look at themselves but more needs to be taken into account, the Referee should also be 'punished for failing to control the game' they're the people on the field who should control the game but when they baltantly let players like McShane kick out and lash out at players for the most of the game what do they expect will happen. The FA have to review the full games not just those highlights, they have to look at everything that was done wrong. Hull were appaling they didn't come to play football they came to kick their way to a result, look at the melee, Monty gets up walks away, and one of their players pushes him from behind, why isn't that player being looked at?, essentially he's the one who started it. We'd be incredibly well behave all up to that point all things considering.

Then look at Bullard, he swings for a one of our players, he then also throws more punches at one of our players chest, he shouldn't have been on the field from this point (never mind scored their winner), the linesman should have seen that and the Ref should have sent him off. Again our players shouldn't have reacted but they were riled up by Hull all game, look at when one of their players... think it was the blonde haired full back, brought Ched down and then kicked out at Ched through his legs, Ched walked away from it but he could have lashed out, why isn't the Hull player being punished for this? (Remember what happened to Morgan when the BBC slowed that footage down of him tapping Van Persie to make it look like Morgan had thumped him)

That whole game needs to be assessed and in truth they'd find alot at fault with Hull and their officials in that one game, I haven't seen everything in the Norwich game but I think Quinn and Reid are being treated harshly in relation to the Norwich players involved too, both Reid and Quinn are around 5'7 the Norwich players stood much taller and really got in both Quinny and Reids faces, in effect trying to bully them, Reid however really lashed out, whereas Quinn mainly did the same as their player put his head in, but the height difference here played apart as the Norwich player then went a dove on the floor as if Quinn had properly stuck a nut on him. Again why aren't this two player being looked at? Also Holt for diving?

It won't help our players but it will help proper justice be given on the games, all three teams are being rightly punished but as for just two of our players and none of theirs, and none of the officials that just stinks and says alot about how we are seen in others eyes. I generally do think this is because we stood up for ourselves and brought the game under a mircoscope for a period, problem is it the lens of the mircoscope needs to be changed to a stronger one, and far more of the game needs to be scruntised!

UTB!

P.S. Have our say we may not be able to do much but we can file official complaints to the FA to request they look at the whole Hull game at least.

Hoolahan at Norwich did not help matters by prancing round pointing at his nose afterwards, imploring the ref to book/send off our players. Also on Boxing Day, the Hull 'keeper ran 40/50 yards to join in with the melee, and never received a card for his troubles.

Whilst I'd normally agree, he probably aided in keeping Kyle Bartley on the pitch, despite the fact he'd already done enough to get sent off. The keeper was Vito Mannone, on loan from Arsenal ;)

We were commenting pretty much the same. Rather than wanting to join in for a bout of fisticuffs the Hull keeper did a great job in calming Bartley down. The referee was cmplately clueless though. He could have dished out a lot more cards than he did.

Maybe the camera does not lie but it can give a false impression. It looks like Ched is holding the player whilst Squinny slots him....

Typical. Quinny can't even hit the the blokes chin even when the blokes being held down :D

Beech - Absolutely spot on!!!

The FA need to sort out the quality, consistancy and accountability of refereeing. Your point about taking the whole game into account is key - referreeing incompetancy sets the tone for the whole game and referees should be recognised as contibutors to the event, not as "outside witnesses".

And I love your point about contacting the FA or ombudsman to pressure for justice. Being a keyboard warrior achieves no changes whatsoever - having the courage to speak out does.

Best post in ages mate

City Charged By FA
Fri 31st Dec 2010 10:10

Norwich City, along with Hull City and Sheffield United, has been handed a charge by the FA for failing to control their players.

The charges relate to a game between Hull City and Sheffield United and Norwich City and Sheffield United.

It shouldn't take a legal eagle to point out the common denominator in both instances.

Sheffield players were at each other's throats almost right from the kick off, and so it was only a matter of time before the dirty, cheating northerners turned on City. There has been a picture in the national newspapers, showing Andy Quinn landing a punch in Russell Martin's face.

Only two days earlier they were at it with Hull City, suggesting, to any right-thinking person, that the culpable party in both cases is Sheffield United.

Now, in all other cases, the sinned-against party would be let go without charge. However, this is the FA, and if they can steal a few thousand pounds from a club, no matter how, they will do it.

----

Manger-less Sheffield United came to Carrow Road with one draw and three defeats to their away record, and on the back of a home defeat to Hull just days earlier.

The reason for the defeat, according to caretaker boss John Carver, was bad decisions by referee Phil Crossley.

Now Crossley has made an unsavoury name for himself over the festive season, but he made as many errors against Norwich City, although in less vulnerable area.

Having said that, a free kick awarded for an Askou foul on former Norwich loan player, Ched Evans resulted in Andy Reid curling one around the wall and into the unguarded top corner.

The lead was swiftly cancelled out will the Sheffield boys were still drinking their cups of lard in the stands, when Michael Nelson beautifully headed home another spot ball taken after a foul on Chris Martin.

Norwich City's habit of the defence standing off and allowing attackers too much time and room left plenty of manoeuvre for a dummy to leave Richard Cresswell all the time he heeded to put the Blades in front once again.

And that was how things stood at half time.

The second half kicked off with Wes Hoolahan coming on as substitute for Simeon Jackson who seemed to look a little out of place in the first 45 minutes.

On the 62nd minute David Fox was replaced by Anthony McNamee, and now City had pace along both flanks, while Korey Smith and Russell Martin went from wing backs to their more normal positions, and suddenly Norwich looked far more assertive when they went forward.

Then came the controversial claim by John Carver that Grant Holt "cheated". Well Mr Carver, if you are not yet aware that every striker will go to ground if contact is made, then it is you that is naive, not Grant Holt a cheat.

Nick Montgomery was shown a yellow card for the foul on Holt, and Crossley was only a few feet behind the incident, not 50 yards away. Crossley did not hesitate as he pointed to the spot, and Wes Hoolahan, in his 100th appearance made no mistake about putting the ball beyond Steve Sominsen's reach.

There was a brilliant recovery from John Ruddy as he back-pedalled to deflect a clever lob from Ched Evans from almost the half way line. There was no doubt that the ball was going in, so Ruddy saved the day as well as that ball.

There are claims from the Sheffield side that a handball incident was ignored when it happened in the City area. Well, Mr Carver, it was so frenetic it was probably ball-to-hand, if at all, but not one that invites a spot kick.

Alternatively, when a hand is seen to contact a cross ball, courtesy of Kyle Bentley trying to spoil a Korey Smith, Chris Martin one-two, then the penalty spot was indicated, with Wes Hoolahan going the opposite way to his first goal, completely outfoxing Simonsen, who went to his right again.

Now it was 3-2 and the tail was up while Sheffield players, who had been arguing amongst themselves from the very start, turned their efforts onto harming the boys in yellow.

Zak Whitbread made a rare appearance for City as he came on for McNamee as it looked like Lambert wanting to shut up shop.

Nelson made a protest about a high challenge that went unanswered, but a later dispute in time added on resulted in Andy Quinn landing a punch on Russell Martin in full view of Phil Crossley. And STILL the Sheffield players mobbed the ref in a vain attempt to influence his decision.

For one last time Ruddy denied a brilliant shot from Ched Evans and finally, Grant Holt set Wes Hoolahan up to complete his ton up with a hat trick.

4-2 to City. Many Sheffiled players made straight for the tunnel with just a few going over to salute the travelling support and shake hands with their opponents

No, that makes them all cheats. Not just Grant Holt.

He's Kyle Bentley's mate. Honestly Sensi, did you not know that?:D
