I started this season with genuine optimism, which lasted about an hour! The players look confused in their roles and unable to compensate for their lower skill levels with the effort and motivation of the last 2 years. Tufty looks increasingly frustrated by his inability to recruit and by the players’ inability to match his level of motivation.

In order to minimise disappointment I am adopting some simple wishes for this season.

1. Stay in Championship.
2. Keep Tufty.
3. Sort ownership chaos.
4. Reboot next summer.

Magic has to be earned, and I have no wish to revisit Port Vale.

I thought before the season that mid table was realistic but you still have that hope you can overachieve and do better. It's absolutely crucial we don't go down though and it's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. We showed lower mid table form in the second half of last season and we've certainly not improved whilst others have. We should still have enough to be ok but better teams than us have gone down from this league and we all know how easy it is to be sucked into League One.

Gonna be a tough season and we need a few wins soon to get the morale of everybody up.

If we go back down it will kill the club
No, we’ll still be there. It will just be a set-back. Watching KM and Poundland will be piss funny too ‘OK, you can have the club, I’ll keep the ground’
‘Er, I don’t want it any more, it’s going to cost me £5m a season to stand still’
‘You started the process, you’re commited to buy now’
‘Don’t want it, want the Belgian one’.

If we could guarantee 100 points and promotion next season from League 1 is happliy take relegation, it’s better than bumming around in the Championship and not being able to compete.

Our fans have been praised in recent years but it won’t take long until we’re averaging 20k or less if we have nothing to play for apart from retaining our Championship status.

The fallout will be immense. Both owners will be finished as far as the fan base are concerned. We'll miss out on a tranch of "new supporters" students kids if the Pigs stay in this division and we go down. Attendances will plummet. Less money. Doesn't bear thinking about.

I try not to be overly dramatic but believe Luke has it spot on.

So who's fault is it that we are all as worried as this?

Is there really an improved budget and the Brooks money to spend and Tufty has chosen not to spend it?

I feel Wilder has made his bed by saying he was happy with the improved budget. In many fans eyes he will be taking a lot more of the blame if we have a bad season as he can't moan about the backing he's received.

We.desperstely need a win on Saturday to reverse the negativity.

Gates went up despite failure in L1. I can't see that happening again for a while.

Totally agreed mr Thornton. Relegation would kill the club!!.
We’d still be there of course but there’d be less bums on seats and wilder would leave. A nightmare scenario that doesn’t bear thinking about. Here’s hoping for a good result on Saturday at QPR. UTB
