Willie Smith (signed from a non league Scottish club played two games for us before going back to Scotland) played in that match. Bald Sheffield derby hero, Bill Punton, plays on the left wing. LSF was at the match as he wrote about it in FB

They beat us at home in the league 3-2 that year (it was night match) after we were leading 2-0 after they were almost or already relegated. We joined them on the last day of the season.

Being a bit before my time I had never realised that Allan Clarke had been at Fulham, I had assumed he had come through at Leicester. Clarke and Jones the scorers, I wonder if Revie was making notes, the bastard.

I was at that game.

We really enjoyed ourselves on the way home in the coach, but didn't get back in time for Match of the Day, so that's the first time I've seen the highlights.

You're getting your seasons mixed up. The relegation season was 67-68 and we did indeed lose 3-2 at home to Fulham on 23/4/68 after being 2-0 up. Woodward and Fenoughty got our goals.

The cup game on the clip was the previous season - 18/2/67. We won the replay 3-1 on 1/3/67 (Jones, Punton 2) and did the double over Fulham in the league that season - 3/9/66 (a) 1-0 (Birchenall) and 7/1/67 (h) 4-0 (Jones 2, Birchenall 2)

I was at that match at Craven Cottage, brings back memories.
Bill Puntons claim to fame was scoring against Wednesday, I think it may have been the winner at BDTBL.

It was. 4/2/67 in a 1-0 win. That was his only league goal (though he did get the 2 in the FA Cup v Fulham mentioned above).

That sounds like yet another classic Blades cock up.

arggh the ravages of time on one's memories - these matches were close to the start of my 45 year addiction. However I do seem to remember All True Blades were at the Lane on those two nights:rolleyes:

Certainly was and If you watch the link up to Mick Jones scoring and the camera panning to the top of their open end, there are me and my mates perched on the top of the railings celebrating! (I'm the one on the right with the parka :-0)

My Uncle Ronnie is 2nd from left waving his scarf (with both hands) across his chest. He is getting married tomorrow!

Walsall was Allan's first club before moving to Fulham. His three younger brothers (Derek, Kelvin and Wayne) all played for Walsall too but his older brother, Frank, didnt as he played for Shrewsbury, QPR, Ipswich and Carlisle. Wayne played a lot of league games and for a lot of clubs.

Going back to the match, there were three other famous players playing for Fulham in that match. Bobby Robson (number 4), world Cup winner George Cohen (2) and Johnny Haynes (10) can be seen hugging Clarke after the first disallowed goal.
