Blackburn chairman said he was lined up to join us but couldn't due to the embargo, so they stepped in last min.
But don’t think he has signed for them as they were late in submitting the paperwork, although are now appealing.

Suggesting here they will still go ahead with the transfer but it would only happen in the summer.

That said, if we could nip out of embargo, there is no loyalty in football. We were in there first just the embargo cost us.

Decent interview to be fair to the guy:

Wouldn't surprise me if we get the lad in the summer. They nipped in because we were hamstrung last week, we can nip in (and get O'Brien too if we fancy him) in the summer if we go up. They had no qualms about taking them at our expense, we should repay the compliment if it suits us.

By all accounts, O'Brien was actively wanting to come to United, as was the young lad from Rochdale but we couldn't do anything so they went to option B (Blackburn) but actually they didn't. Tough shit Blackburn.

Blackburn appeal seems to be on the basis that they didn't know the players were able to sign for Blackburn until late in the afternoon of deadline day.
As a result the paperwork wasn't ready or signed in time.
This Blackburn say, are "reasons beyond their control."

Well that's just tough monkeys for them isn't it. They didn't get the correct signed paperwork in by the required deadline. It's as simple as that really. Short of something being genuinely out of their control like a power cut across Blackburn for an hour at 10pm then they can't really claim that they have been treated unfairly. All the other clubs had the exact same deadline. They've ballsed it up. Accept your mistake, be accountable for it and learn from it. If it gets overturned without a very valid reason then it opens the gates for everyone to lodge appeals if they miss deadlines as it was out of their control. Precedence has been set then. Can't see the EFL allowing it.

That's just no reason at all is it? No chance they make an exception for this.

I'd sign him just to piss on Blackburn's chips.

Seems like the sort of calculated punt we should be making, low initial investment, potentially high rewards, probably immediately loan him out but that's fine

We should look to sign him for say £200k and then ask Blackburn if they want to loan him for the season. For a fee of £500k...

Fax machine bust?

Wonder if he’s still on our radar? Blackburn have confirmed they are not following up after Januarys failed transfer. Believe his contract runs out shortly.

Blackburn will be cutting back now on wages and trying to cut costs as will a lot of Championship clubs as most are skint. We should be taking advantage of this and trying to pick up bargains from the football league and this might be one to add to the development squad. I could see United moving for this lad again as it will be relative peanuts to a PL club, even if we are being cautious with our spending this summer. Time to stock up the development squad and to try and future proof ourselves for Championship football which could easily be where we are again in 12 months time.

I could see us going for O'Brien again too but for less that the apparently agreed £8m fee that Blackburn agreed with Forest in January. It was a case of Blackburn having a restricted gamble by agreeing it only if they went up.

Signed for Brentford B.

Transfermarkt has him as 1.68m.

His wiki has him at 5’11”.

If the former then I’m not sorry.

For once I’d rather we avoid short arses in the midfield. Why can’t we have a midfield all built like fucking wardrobes that scares the life out of the opposition?

Well a midfield trio of Messi Maradona and Gazza might have done that.

A midfield full of lumps who can shove people a round a bit sounds a little limiting. Much rather a midfield of players of under 5’7” with ability than over 6’3” and a bit ‘scary’.

Midget midfield:
Xavi
Inniesta
Modric
David silva
Messi
Pirlo
Scholes
Maradona
Kante
Fred
Schneider
Ribbery
