Really? One was a bad tackle in a nothing area of the pitch when we were 1-0 up and he had little chance of getting the ball (a clear avoidable red). The other was a bad challenge after a bad touch in a 50/50 situation where getting the ball might have led to a chance in on goal, at a time of the match when we were under constant pressure (a possible red, but at least with some room for debate). They aren’t the same at all. I don’t really get the apparent singling out of Madine – most view him as an important part of our squad while also being able to accept it was a stupid decision of his to make that challenge.

It’s personal choice who you like. Personally I don’t mind Lineker. I’m not embarrassed to be an England supporter and I’m old enough to remember 1990. He’s got a lot of goodwill in the bank as far as I’m concerned.

When my dad was alive I’d be able to work out who the Mail was character assassinating from his reactions. I once mentioned Beckham and he had a right rant about him.
