Fellas, I have to drive down to the big smoke and was thinking of parking at some tube station.

Epping is the nearest, but the tube ride takes ages as it is the wrong side of London, another option would be to head for Watford. The orange tube line goes straight to Wembley central, looks like a short trip.

Has anybody else got any similar plans? How big is the car park at Watford? Any other ideas?

Stanmore is just off the M1 and then 5 mins on the jubilee line to Wembley. It's a piece of piss, but parking will be the issue unless you get there very early. There might be some street praking nearby - try streetview.

HH, try Stanmore tube station mate on the Jubilee Line. Its got a decent car park (about £4-5 a day) and Wembley Park is only about 4 stops away. Its about 5 - 10 mins drive from the M1 Junction 4.

I think the "orange underground line" is probably the overground trains and not the tube, just FYI. Metropolitan line is probably your best bet,I think you can get that from Watford Junction...?

Have always gone to Stanmore. May go down the A1 though as I'm in N.Anston. Still looking at other options.

Cannons Park - only 3 stops away and plenty of free parking on a Saturday without the queuing you get at Stanmore. Less than 10 minutes off the M1.

I'd got to Gerard's cross and get the overland train. We did this against burnley, train goes right to the stadium. We were back home by 8.15pm

We tried to park at Stanmore for the Burnley match and the entire area was gridlocked. Canons Park was pretty much deserted, if I was driving down I'd definitely head there.

There's plenty of street parking within a few minutes walk as well.

You could try parking somewhere at the top end of the Metropolitan line as well.

Ickenham fits the bill here... I used it when we played Burnley. Just off A40 (continuation of M40) and has the added advantage of not requiring M1/M25 use M42/M40. Twenty odd minutes from Wembley Park lots of free on street parking and no issues in getting away due to traffic.

We're heading to Stanmore for the tube too. We're staying just outside London the night before so we'll be getting there nice and early.

If it is packed there at least there is the option of Canons Park just down the road.

We parked at Watford for the burnley game and it went like clockwork, apart from the journey back when we were queueing to get in the underground for about 2 hours! Going for canons park this time.

Watford junction for us then a 10-15 minute train to Wembley central. Then a short walk to the Green Man

Done Stanmore before. Nightmare to park if late and a bigger nightmare after the match trying to cram into Wembley Park station

I was looking at Hillingdon for the same reasons - you can also get the Piccadilly line to/from Sudbury Town, which should be quieter, especially on the way back.

Lots of suggestions there. Thanks. I think if I can get up early, and leave in good time (3 hour drive) then it should be possible to find a parking space somewhere.

Should be a cracking good day out.

Dont know if this is of any help but we're driving down and using the "Park on my Street.com" - tenner for the day and 7/8 mins walk from the stadium - there's lots of options and prices vary from £10-£25

I'm not a man who is an expert on the tube, but if you ever want to change from the pink line to the brown line, then the only place to do it is at Baker Street.

If anyone wants to make sure they get a space there's one left on 'parkatmyhouse' search for '1 minute from Stanmore Tube', it is literally next door to the station, have used them before. You'll still have the congestion on the road to the station but will get in and out much quicker. £10 for the day.

Or drive for an extra two minutes to Canons Park, avoid the congestion and park for free.

I was thinking about using Hillingdon/Ickenham myself but just checked the tfl website and seems that there are engineering works. You may want to check the website for the times you are planning on going as it seems there is a faff of using buses on certain services. Would be interested to know how other NW based blades are planning to get there. My other options are park at Beaconsfield & train to Wembley or M1 and any of the tube stations mentioned already.

Sarah, I have pretty much decided to give Ickenham a look. Looks easy to get to, all the way round the M25 and the car park looks pretty big.

If I make it in good time I plan to have a couple of pre match beers in The Old Fox. A few minutes walk from the train station.

Judging by the number of members heading to Stanmore/Cannons Park it maybe a bit hectic there? Who knows.

Tony.

That's why I was thinking about using the tube on the M40 side. I will use your recommendation then it isn't my fault if it all goes wrong ;-)

Just checked and it seems the Piccadilly line is ok for this weekend and the work on the Metropolitan line is at the other end.
