following DOYLES sending off v Fulham he was treated pretty poorly by a section of our support, had it been maguire, baxter, scougall etc who had been sent off im not sure they would have recieved a similar over reaction or level of abuse.

anyway since that day things have gone pretty well, Doyle is back as captain and can be expected to lead us out at Wembley on the 13th April.

With this in mind and the recent upturn in form Doyle has recieved very little prai
se, he goes about his job with little fuss but surely hes played his part. Im no huge fan of Doyles, like a few players he was exposed against Wolves as a fairly average division one midfieleer, however he gets littke praise when we're doing well but is public enemy no. 1 when things arent quite right.

is the bloke onto a hiding to nothing as far as our fans are concerned?

Credit where its due.
Since his comeback from suspension he has been a different bloke and player.
Maybe it was that rush of blood that needed to be gone and out of his system,it could have been building up for a while.
For the first time, i look at doyle now,as a pivotal part of the improved midfield.

I've stated it recently that he's done well.

I don't feel it necessary to continually defend him as I'd be on a hiding to nothing.

The mans doing well and as captain I think he will rightly take his moment to lead us out at wembley. He deserves it

Good post CarlingBlade, I happen to have been a critic of Doyle's. I can't comment on the reason's of other posters who were/are anti-Doyle, but I think I'm representative of many who believed that he captained a side when it's been in severe decline, thus his contribution as Captain has contributed to this decline. Looking at the overall improvements since Clough took over, it may well be that Doyle was as much a victim of poor tactical nous from our previous managers, but whatever the reasons for his improvement, I think most sensible supporters will praise when it's called for, and Doyle has shown steady improvement, not spectacular, but the sort of application we can all appreciate......just tell him to stop grabbing his face when the ball hits his hand, that's pure music hall!

I can't deny that he certainly went up in my estimation after he could barely speak with tears in his eyes after the Charlton match.

Infact, don't ask me why but I fancy him to score at Wembley.

Nuddy, we're all men here mate, there was no need to add ".....to score at Wembley"

You're a good poster mate, so don't sit on the fence ;)

I've also been one of Doyle's fiercest critics, especially after his sending off v Fulhamf .
All credit to him though, he's behaved himself after coming back from suspension and is now even playing as a captain should .
Maybe Cloughy read him the riot act, maybe he had a quiet word. Whatever was said to him seems to have done the trick and he's contributed to the recent winning run as much as anyone.
If he's given the job of keeping Huddleston quiet in the semi-final and does a job, we have a bloody good chance of winning the game.
