Don’t change a winning set up

Our view is that we changed a winning set up. First off comes Madine who scared villa to death and then Billy who has terrorised the hesitant defence. Off goes Dowell creator of 2 goals. We’ve now gone 4-4-2 from an established 3-5-2 set up. I get Blades Analytics saying players have hit their red lines but we don’t need to change our set up. If Dowell has to go off replace him with Duffy and keep our shape. Don’t mess around with a winning formula. At 82 minutes I could only see us increasing the lead but the changes in personnel and formation have cost us tonight and I’m gutted.

Agree. Don't change the shape if you don't have too. Obviously if the opposition change things around and start.overloading you then you have to adjust things, but there was no need to change the formation at all tonight..It was working fine.

That said, the formation change didn't make the lads make those silly individual mistakes. One to chalk up to experience, and move on quickly to muller Boro in the next game. These things do happen.

The subs were always going to happen. Madine by his own admission doesn't have 90 minutes in him. I'd go as far as to say there were no three subs Wilder could have made that should've cost us two points.

At 3-0 subs were necessary we have games next week against Boro a big 6 pointer and Reading.
Players needed to be rested can't expect them to keep putting in that performance for 80 minutes in 2 more games without letting others giving them a break.

We basically switched from a 3-4-1-2 to a 3-5-2

The shape didn't force Hendo into two uncharacteristic errors and the fantastic JOC to gift them the ball. We were 0-3 up on 81 minutes.
