Why would players who have 'found their level', ever want to get promoted?

It seems evident that had United been promoted, a wholesale change of personnel would have had to take place to avoid immediate relegation. So isn't there a financial motive for players NOT get their team promoted?

I'm not suggesting this phenomenon is necessarily conscious but mightn't it explain the drop off in form halfway through the season? The only players who have a stake in promotion are therefore the young ones who haven't yet found their level and are still progressing within their trade.

For this reason isn't a comprehensive youth policy and trust in a young team the best way forward for a team in the mess we are now in?

Would people tell me the flaws in my logic please?

can't see one Vorps.. makes a lot of sense.. Collins has gone from player of the season candidate to total zero in 3 months

Players don't get sacked, they get sold. If a player got a team promoted, picked up a nice bonus and was then sold, he'd get a reputation of being part of a successful team, in which case there'd be higher demand and higher wages and higher sign on fee.

Why did we drop off? We were inconsistent from day one (too many draws) and always one mistake from defeat or victory. It just so happens that when we sold Blackman, we had less cover for those mistakes.

Well you have to consider that most teams now , half 5 of them are probably loan players , some knowing they are returning to a bigger mother club or the odd one that wants to stay, , theres always natural wastage , retiring players , players out of contract, and long term injured , but Charlton and huddersfield didnt change drastically to stay up.

one of my big bugbears is that we let in so many comedy howlers every season.. i mean goals that would get on a daftest goals video.. yet.. we haven't scored one against anyone else.. is it only us that does them??

Sometimes it is impossible to sell players. Look at the trouble SUFC have had 'downsizing', I would suggest for instance Montgomery was NOT sold at all, the club just pretended he had been to spare everyones' blushes.

The older players are pretty much un-sellable of course they can be released in a 'fire sale' at a 'give-away price' and a free-transfer doesn't even masquerade as a sale.

doesnt matter how they go , so long as they go, I dont care if they lie and told us they sold Doyle to Barcelona for 4 million, so long as he goes
