Derek Riordan

I saw some of Porters goals on You Tube and was impressed by his finishing
Dont rely on You Tube clips Enough said
There are 4/5 of us on here who have seen him in the flesh and know he is more than good enough for this league.
If we sign him and he turns up focused he will hit 8-10 this season and his assist rate for Ched will be a joy to watch. However you don't know which Derek Riordan will come to the party. If Danny gives him loads of hugs and pats on the back, he will respond. He is very much like Michael Brown temperment wise. In a game he is everything or non existant.
He had a rough time in Edinburgh and seriously went down hill with his attitude when his buddy Kevin Thompson left Hibs for Rangers. However he is in a stable relationship now and has a young kid. I know his uncle very well and he reckons he is a changed man and up for a challenge.
I hope we sign him and get the player of a few years ago. Fingers crossed.

Really? When we signed Andy Walker from Celtic it took him a good two months to get back to the standard and fitness required and he'd been playing at the top of the Scottish tree (if there is such a thing).

I do know what you mean, but he is good. Andy Walker did score a fair few goals for us as I remember ... was a long time ago though for my memory to be right

As another Hibs fan (I didn't know there would be others on here!), I'm excited by the prospect of Riordan joining. You just need to look at some of the players Hibs have produced to know he will have technical ability (the most well known being Scott Brown). He and Clarke could be lethal and bring a different aspect to the attack. It's just a question of how you would fit all of the strikers in?

I presume this is all a case of 'see where we are after the weekend' in terms of bodies up front. There's always a chance Ched could go right up to the last minute of the JTW and with the BT situation, it makes sense to keep options open this week.

Think it's more a Hibees message board on here these days isn't it ?? Foxy time to get the Famous Five up there with TC et al on the top of the page

Could Riordan be an option on the wing?

Has he played there before? DW stated he was looking at wingers

Not for me in that case Matt.

Get him signed. Much better than Cresswell and Porter IMO.
UTB

Surely if we were going to sign him we would have, or am I missing something here?

With BT now signed up there's less of an argument to go for him, rightly or wrongly. I think he'll be a Ched insurance policy now.

Much rather we went for Billy Clarke although it seems Blackpool are looking for a buyer first and foremost. I expect we'll get him last minute if he's not sold.

Are we really that hard up that we cant afford to buy Clarke? wouldnt cost that much surely

I imagine its more a case of trying to stay within budget, or at least not too far over.

The club could probably make the deal happen but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Over indulgence in the transfer market is the reason for debt in football.

Maybe not but there's also a chance that Billy may not want to commit to a team who could be in Div 3 again next season. Problem is, he's out of contract in the Summer so Blackpool need to cash in now. I'm guessing we'll end up with a 'loan with a view to' and maybe an 'undisclosed' fee to smooth over the cracks if it doesn't end up going through.

I heard a rumour that some jockanese might have been training with us this week ;)

Not sure if some means one or more than one in this case.

According to Football Focus only minutes ago, David Weir, who was on as a guest pundit, confirmed that he'd been training with us this week. I wonder how that came about, there's no obvious link that I can think of with Danny boy? Maybe it's BT telling him there's always an easy meal ticket at Bramall Lane.

He's a mere 41 years old, won't be 42 until May, but he's obviously still fit and there's no doubt we need centre back cover, so he'd be a decent short-term signing.
