If he goes from Brighton, O'G might be staying put. Might also relish new opportunity under Hughton.

Don't worry NC will bring in the goal scoring ace Davies from free scoring Blackpool as a replacement….

Surely Davies is off the radar now? Blackpool are terrible!!
Hearing a lot of whispers of a swap deal with chesterfield for Doyle>higdon though.
Not sure how I feel about that

Darren Bent: Derby County sign Aston Villa striker on loan

Derby County have signed out-of-favour Aston Villa striker Darren Bent on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old England international has just ended a loan spell at Championship rivals Brighton, where he scored two goals in four games.

Bent previously played under Rams boss Steve McClaren in the England side.

"He knows where I play, so it's a case of me just bedding in, trying to get involved and scoring as many goals as I can," Bent told BBC Radio Derby.

"I wanted to come here and be part of something that could be special."

Bent, who has 13 England caps, made eight appearances for Premier League side Villa this term, seven of which came as substitute.

He is set to make his Rams debut against former side Ipswich Town on 10 January.

"Darren has scored goals wherever he has been during his career and we believe he can contribute on the field for us," McClaren told the club website. "He adds to our already excellent attacking options."

The former Charlton, Tottenham man has scored 25 goals in 72 appearances for Villa since a £24m move from Sunderland in January 2011, but has not been a regular under Paul Lambert and spent last season on loan at Fulham.

Derby sit third in the table, one place below Ipswich and two points outside the automatic promotion places.

So looks like Brighton will need COG even more unless they are going to replace him during the window.

So lets recap, the guy we wanted but didn't sign at the beginning of this season we finally get on loan for 3 and a bit games before he's recalled.
Do we.
1/ Now not sign a striker for in case he maybe can come back to us before the beginning of next season
2/ Hang on to the strikers we already have for the rest of the season in case he doesn't come back ever .
3/ Get rid of the strikers we have and try to sign another goal scoring mid-field player and forget about him all together ?

We should go out and get a replacement. Not sit waiting all month wondering if COG will be allowed to return. Clough seems confident he will return but we are not in control of the situation.

We need to keep our options open because we usually get shat on and then miss the the boat on signing anyone decent.

Seems what we actually seem to be doing at the moment is papping our pants every time someone in football makes a move in or out of the game. Warnock sacked by Palace, will they be coming for Clough? Bent on loan at Derby, will that mean we don't get our player back on loan. If we don't have numerous irons in numerous fires then we deserve everything coming to us.

Let's guess that all this will be used as an excuse not to spend money, when actually it should be the reason to go out and spend the money. Go out, be bold and sign your players early. Otherwise forget it and let's wallow in this shitheap division for ever.

It all depends on the boards intentions for moving the club forward and how much faith they have in Mr Clough and Mr Clough brother , being able to purchase the right players , at the right money.

Loan players are loan players . COG situation was a situation of two little , too late , to solve a ongoing problem , which Mr Clough thought he had sorted with Higdon .

Back to square one , and the backbone of CH , CM , CF still requires resolving , with the only way of getting quality , which in any walk of life cost money . I can see us all being disappointed , and a feeling of , once again let down , and short changed.

Butler , Wallace ( due to ongoing injuries) and Higdon have just not worked out , which makes the January window more dire and worrying , to get right . No room for second chances , and if we do not achieve promotion this season , someone or some people needs sacking , and it wont be the board.

Bent not the player he used to be a flop.

I've no idea why I'm saying this, as I don't particularly rate the guy either - but I feel a bit sorry for all the grief that Bent gets.

Over 100 goals in the Premier League, and he's even scored four times for England. He can't have been that bad.

Look at me, being nice about a footballer on the internet - you can tell it's early in the New Year; it'll never catch on...
