The die appears to be cast now , particularly at home . Sides are going to come here and kick us off the park .

Some times it'll be sheer frustration on the visiting teams behalf . Late and clumsy tackles made by players exasperated by their inability to get the ball and hold onto it .

Sometimes it'll be part of a clearly orchestrated plan to kick us out of our rhythm .

Players are going to be injured .Come the JTW our already threadbare squad is going to be stretched to breaking point . Give CW whatever he needs to add some real quality to our current squad .

Do not let CW down . He was your choice . He is loved by us because of everything he is doing . Don't destroy something that could be the best thing we have seen in a long long time .

Given the squad CW has put together, it would be interesting to gather people's thoughts on where improvements can be made in January. Is it cover or someone to walk straight into the first team? For me, the obvious one is on the right side as any replacement we have at the mo for Freeman is not as good. If EEL is not called back by Wolves, we have any 3 from 5 (EEL, O'Connell, Wright, Basham, Wilson) in the middle at the back. Some midfield cover for Coutts/Fleck/Duffy maybe another area? Up front, we appear to have various options already although if anyone knows of a Brian Deane MkII out there........:)

Someone who can add real pace either out wide or up front would be a nice cherry on the icing on the cake:)

Agree.

And with the highest priority given to a forward to go with Sharp, as our existing options are not great.

Any suggestions ?;)

I don't think the squad is threadbare, but the prevention of clubs taking loans outside of the transfer window means a few injuries can derail a season.

Therefore I'd like us to pick up a right sided player at the very least, but beyond that we'd need genuine quality to displace what we have.

As much as he can frustrate, Basham's versatility is golden across the course of a season.

If EEL is taken back to Wolves, which is highly likely imo unless they start winning regularly, then a commanding CB is top priority, followed by a decent RB to cover for Freeman, followed by pace out wide.
A quality CM to help see us through injuries wouldn't go amiss either but Whiteman might be sufficient to cover.

Based on EEL's interview on RS last night it doesn't sound like he will come to permanently this season but he would be happy to stay until the end of the season( I assume provided a Championship club doesn't come in for him in the meantime.

In view of this I assume CW has a back up plan for another centre half. In terms of other signings I wonder if Brayford will be recalled in January as competition for Freeman if no one will take him off our hands for a fee. Certainly need a ball playing midfielder and a back up striker

I'm fully aware of the tediousness of this 'in the know' rubbish, but I know a Sunday league footballer who claimed to know one of eel's good friends and reported that 'he likes it at united but doesn't want to get stuck as a league 1 footballer.'

Take a pinch salt at your own discretion...

Sounds like common sense to me

That's the problem with league 1.

It's a fact that anyone that has ability and ambition simply won't come unless we offer massive wages well above their worth or offer generous incentives/ clauses.

Don't think United will be desperate and break the bank on one player this JTW and I'm sure EEL's agent will advise him not to panic. Just wait until the Summer and assess the offers on the table. United May be able to offer Championship football then.

personal thoughts we don't need a marquee signing, i'd be happy with Right back as cover for freeman as I don't see O'Connell and Bash as adequate cover, Wolves not recalling EEL/ us signing him permanently if possible, another ball playing CM as cover for Coutts/Fleck i think that would give us enough cover all over the pitch. If i was being extra greedy i'd suggest a more experienced back up keeper should Simon Moore pick up an injury we have Ramsdale/Long, i don't doubt Ramsdale will turn into a fine keeper but i don't think he's quite ready for a run of 5 or 6 games in a promotion campaign and George Long is, well, George Long.

Better never stops.

We will be looking to improve the squad within a budget. If it can be done, then we will spend. Whoever we bring in should be better than what we have, otherwise there is no point seeing as we are looking to be going up.

We have some lads in the youth set up who on the face of it look to be good prospects. I reckon they could do reasonable jobs on an ad hoc basis. However, I worry that any loss of Fleck and a Coutts, and probably Duffy will see the biggest change to the way we are managing to dictate and control games presently.

So for me, I would like to see one more top midfielder with ability as good if not better than Coutts/Fleck. Coutts is out of contract in June so it would be prudent to make plans to replace him anyway. Adding a third option for their roles would add competition, allow some rest and rotation as well as keeping players fresh. The role they have means they wont be able to keep their form and freshness all season.

I'm happy with the forward options, maybe an outright winger or sheer pace to allow changes to systems easily.

I agree with some that right full back is light on numbers, but see this as a role where a youth player could do the job adequately. It's the central spine that's critical.

Is there a guy with a 30 goal a season record at this level available anywhere who may want to join us at all?

Obviously freeman cover is the main concern at this time.

I wonder whether recalling the Beard is an option for that side. If anybody can rejuvenate him it's Wilder. In that position takes the weight off his questionable defending as a back 4.

We don't need any forced signings. JTW equates to bad value. We are more than covered everywhere, in my opinion.

Don't spend a penny, don't sell anyone, I'll be delighted.

We sent Brayford out because we couldn't afford to strengthen with his wage on the books. I don't see why that will have changed.

A RWB.

A CB If EEL is recalled (we need something in place in case they call him back at the 11th hour).

And 1 more forward (Akinde, Bogle or Evans would do nicely).

That should give us enough to finish the job. I think it’s too greedy to ask for another ball playing midfielder. We 2 and one further forward in Duffy. We have Basham, Whiteman, Reed, Scougall and Brooks in reserve. I don’t think we could keep everyone happy if we brought more in.

I’d also like to see Reed and Ramsdale get loan moves with George (or a short term replacement if he moves on) on our bench.

When it comes to January, the board need to NOT do anything silly - such as selling one or two of our key players. We need to stand firm for one transfer window. OK we may not be able to do anything about big Ebanks, as he isnt our player. But the rest, we pretty much need to hold onto.

I still think we may need some lightening fast pace, and possibly a midfield hardman, but we have a good squad.
