Not sure why United’s Story here should be any more valid than a newspapers.

Because they've actually spoken to people who were there and actually broke up the altercation rather then their mate down the pub has heard a rumour about something and so lets print it in the press maybe? :)

Plus United do not rely on selling stories to make money, unlike journalists?

So the club are more likely to know the truth about what happened in a training ground and aren't trying to justify their existence by talking about it :)

Not saying their version of the story is true, just they have undeniably better access to the facts.

But anyone at the club that wasn't there at the time has just as much access to the facts as a journalist has, IE, what someone elses account. Just because there's a statement from the club, it doesn't mean the club is omniscient. Who would issue that statement from the club, the Press Officer perhaps? I doubt they would have been there to witness the altercation first hand. The Press Officer’s job will be to relate the stories the club wants the press to know to the press. Are you also suggesting that the press haven’t spoken to people involved, why? I think you’re making assumptions.
Of course a Newspaper relies on the news to justify its existence and therefore it’s agenda is to sell a ‘story’ but the club has just as much agenda. If this did actually happen, do you think the club would want anyone knowing that our two record signings were fighting? Do you think they would admit if one of them had attacked the other with a blade? Would the club want other clubs knowing that our star defender is unsettled? The club probably does know more about what happened than the press does, but that doesn’t mean it’s more likely to tell the truth.

I’m amazed that one story should be believed and one shouldn’t. Don’t believe everything you read.

I don't... which is why I'm questioning your opinion :)

My opinion was that there seems to be some truth in it, as Ade had said there was and that you shouldn't believe one press release over another. All I'm saying is just because a newspaper writes a story it doesn't make the story true or false. Just because United make a press release it doesn't make it true or false.

I do object, however, to people saying that a story in the press must be false, whereas a press release from the club must be true.

I love this club but it doesn't mean that they either would, or should, report an incident like this as it happened.

My whole point was that the poor way in which the paper article was written made me question its authenticity straight away. Hense my opinion it was bad journalism. If it was good journalism, I would have been made to believe every word of it.

For the record, I **think** they just had a little bit of banter that went out of hand, but I have absolutely no idea if this is the case or not. For all I know Ade could have tried gunning down Claude with a sub machine gun before Claude retaliated with a machete attack on Ade.

Thats the thing, none of us know, only the people involved know. My opinion based upon the structure of the original report and the press release is that the Blade part is all bullshit. Again that could be totally wrong.

From past experience however, I feel much more comfortable believing the club than the Daily Mail.

I trust our board and management team enough to believe neither player would have been involved in ANYTHING after the time of the event unless it has been resolved or wasn't all that serious in the first place.

PS - if you shouldn't believe either, why are you reliant on Ade saying there was? :D

Well, that helped me get through today. Cheers Martin and Linz.

:D

All I can add at this late stage is that Claude is a Blade(or user of one) and Ade can go and play somwhere else for me, alright I have a down on him, but he appears to be a lazy footballer, I know his goal was great on Tuesday, but what else has he done!!! Claude is a class act and will help keep us in this division.

I agree with you on that dingledog, and if it's true that Ade started it all after Johnson's "Olympic Gold Medal winner", Ade can bugger off, I'm sure there's another team out there he'd fit in easily at who we could do business with.... hmmmmmmmmm.... ;)

Tell me he pulled out a razor without telling me he pulled out a razor.
