Chaps,

With Jacket now at Wolves, surely Steve Davis gotta be better than Page. Accustomed to working on fxxx all money, youngsters and bargain basement stuff; also won a promotion, and Dario Gradi is not a bad mentor!

Also offers potential for good headlines. 'Davis snookers the opponents', 'Davis cues off with a home win'!

I think Davis would probably say no.

Sadly I think he has better prospects staying at Crewe.

This is an absolutely critical appointment that McCabe has to make here, and to get it right he has to be prepared to stick his hand in his pocket and pay any compensation due to get the right man.

Failure to do so will probably end up costing us more in the long run.

Probably the only manager that if appointed fans could understand and get behind.

.

McCabe has also got to be prepared to take loads of stick because I reckon at least 75% of the fans will moan whoever he picks. I've no idea who would be the right 'fit' for us and I suspect (maybe wrongly) that a couple of weeks ago (or even now) the Board didn't have a clue either.

I don't think he will stick his hand too far in his pocket for compo,I just hope that, for once,he somehow picks the right person. I can thou see the benefit of bringing in someone completely fresh to management. A gamble but look how shit we have done recently with experience

Whoever it is thou, and despite the moaning,i have no doubt that initially, the fans will give the new man a chance

I'm hoping that Davis is the mystery man we're talking to on Monday.
Maybe he told us he was going for the Wolves job initially but now that's gone he's expressed an interest in us.
Why else leave it this late before involving a new man?
It all seems to fit. Wishful thinking?

we are interviewing someone on monday
I pray its a manager , a proper one not a prospect someone who will be good, maybe , but someone whos at least cut his teeth and worked with a modicum of relative success , ie raised a poor teams status

coyle or davis fit the need, the desperate need to move forward
someone who can get us more than 2 points in our final 3 games every season would be nice

Interviews are great if you want to know how good someone is at interviews.

Spot on with point one Barty, but the number of managers we've gone through this decade suggests you're barking up the wrong tree. This is the man who punted a manager three games into a season because we lost a game badly in front of his (since discredited) "far-eastern investors". This is also the man who punted a manager three days before meeting with fans who had voiced anger at performances.

I have no problem with any of the candidates suggested thus far and will welcome whichever is chosen and wish him the best in an impossible task, but one day it would be nice if all the booing and car-park action either made no impression on him and he actually stuck to a plan for once in his life or was actually directed at him since he's the common denominator in all our failings.

And I still believe that if hadn't had sacked Blackwell,we wouldn't have been relegated. The style of football was getting worse thou.

style , buggar style he was averaging nearly 2 points per game in the championship, be careful what you wish for, the style seekers got what they wanted ,Blackwell out and look where we are now, oh what Id give for a dull 1-0 win at Reading now , or an even duller 1-0 win at home,,,,against anyone

If you keep collecting points (the general idea really) you can kid yourself its better than it is, piggies have done that for years

I wouldn't have sacked him either and I also believe that we would have stayed up if we'd kept him.

However, I feel we were already well established on the down slope and all it would have done would have slowed the momentum a bit. Plus, he'd have been sacked at some stage given the mounting pressure at the style of football anyway.

I have never understood all the vitriol against Blackwell, he came at a time when we were in real danger of being relegated under Robson, saved us and then pushed on the following season. Lost in a play off final (which is not really unusual for a blades manager) and offered his resignation. Was talked out of it and then finished top ten the following season. Finally sacked three games in one of which was a 1-1 draw at Cardiff which is a result we are unlikely to acheieve anytime soon. I agree his football wasn't exciting to watch but would anyone like to share a game from the season that has just finished that they found exciting. I saw us about 10 times and I can't think of one that will make the "100 Best Blades Matches " DVD

Sorry for the avoidance of doubt my post should have read "10 times last season"

This is the only Davis we'll attract...

Freddie "Parrot Face" Davis.

But I bet you Sky Bet would give you at least 15/1 on him...

I have never understood all the vitriol against Blackwell,

I don't go in for hatred, but this much is abundantly clear: Birch and Blackwell were at the helm of a ship that was taking on water at an alarming rate, and all they did in response was take us further out to sea.
