PARALYMPIC legend David Weir powered to victory in the Tyne Tunnel 2k wheelchair race tonight.
The event kicked off a packed programme of sporting activities this weekend - finishing with the Great North Run on Sunday.
The road race takes place in the dead of night, through Tyne Tunnel 1, which is closed to traffic during the wheel-to-wheel action.
David Weir - known as the Weirwolf - added the title to his burgeoning list of accolades, which includes six Paralympic gold medals and six London Marathon wins.
