Given that the only time Cannon has looked like a footballer is when he’s played up front with Bamford as a partner, would Ings and Bamford be worth a try at some point? I’m not saying I’ve seen much, if anything from Ings since he signed, and maybe I’m clutching at straws, but it could be worth giving them a go together. The cup would have been our ideal opportunity to try it out but that ship has now sailed, unfortunately.

As much as ings isn't doing owt didn't Rhodes cost the pigs 10 million and was much younger and did fuck all, ings can't be on as much as some blades like to think end of the season he'll probably go to MLS or summat and say ah goodbyes with a GLTTL.

Anyone know when the last time was that we fielded a strikeforce of 2 (former) England internationals together?

Had to check how old Ings was, only 33. Despite playing at a higher level in his prime years, Billy is such a "Sharp"😉 contrast post 30.
When he was 33 in 18/19. This was his record.

Billy has to be one of the few outfield players who improved significantly after turning 30 years old. He certainly put the hard work in physically to be able to continue to play so well.

It's a shame Ings doesn't even look as though he could do a supersub role for us.
He's got to be just above Ian Rush and version 2.0s of Beattie and Bent for the worst experienced old man striker we've had.

Nice idea but Cannon has youth on his side. He needs someone to feed off and learn from. Ings simply can’t keep up now, you can see it in his frustration on the pitch. Runs that are not quite quick enough, defenders getting a foot in and finishing that is off. I feel for him but its just the march of time - no fixing that.

To be fair to Ings he's clearly been ruined by injuries/combined with that Liverpool move.
His legs just aren't up to it anymore. I found the interview after the game he scored in quite depressing with how despondent he was - he clearly knows his body can no longer do what his head wants it to - I'd be amazed if he's kept on after this season.

Yep, for a 50:50 you did a great job! Nothing personal but pretty sure you didn’t have a unique insight beyond others. Still, well done 👏
It’s not a 50/50 though is it, most people thought it was a good signing.

I think it’s fairer to say most people thought it was a good signing if he was fit/had something in the tank. That was my view. I think I said it had a lot of upside if he was fit. We did make a signing like that - Bamford. Ings looks done physically sadly.

There was also optimism around the signing as people were grasping at any straw they could given how bad the other signings were and how out of his depth Selles was.

It's all about systems too especially with Ings with the amount of work load Selles was trying to get him to do and being a central striker of a 3/ loan striker with 2 AM's out wide type of system, chances weren't there, he then got injured for a bit. I still think it was a good signing on a free based on potential similar to Mee. If the season ended today, the worse thing we got from paying Ings was him scoring at home to Norwich, and coaching/giving advice to Cannon which isn't the worse thing in the world. He will probably retire/move on in the summer unless he some how has a magic 2nd half of the season. It was always going to be a gamble this time it didn't pay off but could have been worse, least he wasn't penned into a 4 year deal!

i can see us moving both ings and campbell on this summer i dont see what either give us now both seen their better days i would like us to go for piroe at leeds espscially with the likelyhood of joe rothwell coming in

Agreed, he is doing the right things on the pitch but he isn't as quick as he was thus meaning he is struggling to get on the end of things. Classic case of a player losing half a yard and even at Championship level its a lot to lose.
