They said during the game last night that Danny Coyne was training with United with a view to coming in as cover. Anyone heard anything definite? I always thought he was a top keeper in his Tranmere days.

Old bloke, cheap will sit on the bench in case Long gets injured.

If as they say he's in reasonable shape, I think this is a good move.

Spend any loan cash left on a really good winger then we can push on.

If it's cover for Long then yes, if he's first team then it's a big no.

Darren Ward is the Blades 'keeper coach - why hasn't he come out of retirement?

why do we need keeper back up? George Willis is an England international kid, and he is similar sort of age to what George Long was when he played at Swansea. Keep our loans to effective players that can make a differance.

Sounds like Danny has been told that signing another goalkeeper is not going to happen unless Long gets injured:

Danny Coyne, previously of Middlesbrough and Leicester City, has been invited to train at Shirecliffe.
But despite indicating he “would like” to sign the former Wales international, Wilson admitted the transfer is now “unlikely” to go through.

This seems like an eminently sensible decision from the Blades management: what's the point in spending £1,000 per week on a goalkeeper to sit on the bench when we've got an England youth international who can do that just as well?

Long is looking very assured at the moment as well - Howard is going to have to play out of his skin when he recovers to take over the number 1 slot again if performances are the yardstick by which selections are measured and decided upon.

There's your out of contract keeper who's been training with us and on standby :)

As I understand it, the signing is a short term one to provide cover as George Willis was injured last week,

Bingo. George had concussion and Gareth Owen played in both the U18 and U21 games over the weekend/beginning of the week.
