"While Sheffield United will be tipped to last just one season back in the Premier League, you'd be advised not to write off their local hero manager Chris Wilder and players who continually defy expectations.

Huddersfield and Cardiff both made good fists of their first seasons in the Premier League and Burnley, whose squad has similarites with The Blades, are practically established in the top flight now.

Sheffield United are arguably a bigger club than any of those mentioned above with a history and tradition that dates back to winning the old First Division in 1898 and scoring the first goal of the Premier League era, Brian Deane against Manchester United in 1992.

As Wilder goes for the Championship title on Saturday at Stoke City, Sportsmail assesses why Sheffield United are heading for the Premier League – and what they can expect next. ETC"

Good article and the point about the owners dispute is very valid. The one about signing Jermaine Defoe isnt!

"If there is a championship equivalent to Jurgen Klopps heavy metal football, it's them"

Like that:)

“Sheffield is the Steel City, and a football hotbed. United, in their red-and-white stripes, like to see themselves as the working man's team compared to the more trendy Wednesday.”

Dont see Wednesday as the trendy club in Sheffield, in fact the opposite.

A rare thing indeed an article from the Fail that doesn't blame or insult either Raheem Sterling or Meghan Markle!

something wrong here - no ones used the term "scab" after seeing the picture of Colin Cooper of Forest - slipping up - think the record of singing scab to the Forest lot is 5 seconds after the game started. Think it took over 60 this season - slipping up again.

“There may be room for one wild card in Wilder's transfer policy, someone like 36-year-old Jermain Defoe, a proven goalscorer who won't cost the earth.”

There may well be room for Defoe, but he won’t be getting in it.

Quite.

I recall Danny Baker writing a piece in a national newspaper a few years ago, about which club he would support in various English cities, taking into account the 'culture' of the club and supporters. Suffice to say that he said he would undoubtedly support United in Sheffield. He likened Wednesday to Crystal Palace, who, as we know, the Millwall fans refer to as 'the Nigels'.

Wednesday - "the Nigels of Sheffield"
