There's a definite issue regarding how we play when we're ahead of late. Whether that change comes from the manager, players or opposition is another matter.

Putting extra height on made sense at the time.

At least we don't get booed off like Middlesboro did. There's a lot of our fans who's main reason for living is too slag our own fans off, they haven't a clue what the fans at other clubs are like

But someone said that Boro's message board wasn't slagging their team off like this one is.

Everyone knows that a few posts on a message board is the true reflection of a fanbase as opposed to those thousands attending...surely?

The doctrine that doesn't work as analogy? What would be the point of that?

You know how crushingly wrong you were just last week? Well it's Groundhog Day again. You're a trouper though, I'll give you that :)

The only Groundhog Day apparent on this forum is you replying to every post that hints at optimism with the reasons why we will never have any success, usually followed with a reminder of how lucky we are to have McCabe at the helm.

Saying we'll never have success under McCabe isn't optimism. Are you sure you've got the words in the right order.

Any link to your last claim?

I think you need to read it again, it's you who usually dampens the optimism. To break it down a little further, your excuses usually are:

a) We've not got any money
b) We've never had any money
c) We'll never have any money

You then attempt to make everyone laugh with jokes about money trees and then accuse everyone of having an agenda against McCabe.

I never see much optimism from you. Quite the opposite. Pointing out that we probably don't have the Brooks, Walker, Maguire money to spend in January is more of a case of explaining to - what you laughably call optimists - that getting your hopes up on an impossibility is a complete waste of time. Although some know it won't happen and are happy to bide their time until ready to shout "told you so" as if was only known to a select few., it's not, its reality.

I actually said unless there is further investment by the owners the big spend won't happen. Bearing in mind the legal issue, do you think that's likely to occur ?

Never have any money? That's all you've ever stated while McCabes here. But provide me with a link to where I've said it.

Thetes an increasing lack of lucidity in your posts.

The salient point being, where's your optimism here?

I

Hypothetical? It's a well worn blueprint.

Another club interested in one of our players
SUFC say he's not leaving
Interested club ups the offer (by not very much)
SUFC accepts offer
SUFC say it was "crazy money" and couldn't stand in the players way (whose head was turned by his agent)
SUFC say money will be used to fund incoming players
Incoming players don't transpire
Money to be used to cover operating costs instead
Fans congratulate the board for saving the club from bankruptcy
All hail McCabe

What a load of garbled waffle, I haven't a clue what you're on about. All you've done is quote one of my posts which is exactly what I'm trying to tell you. The optimism continues in spite of this and your efforts to justify it. I'll continue the discussion when you manage to come up with something a little more coherent.

And that post concludes with the fact that money will go on running costs rather than players, which is exactly what I've been saying. Which is why I posted it. It's not hard to understand.

"The optimism continues in spite of this and your efforts to justify it."

What does this mean? Justify what? I'm not unoptimistic, we're playing well, feeling that millions won't be spent in January doesn't mean I've given up, or suggested we won't finish top six. Far from it. That's for those of your ilk.

Again, instead of just making claims, let's have a link. Then it's clear. You said I made up the bit about students yet you've done it non stop in this thread.

I agreed with you over Sharp yesterday but you still disagreed for some reason. Disagreed with your own point. Jesus.

You're clearly still smarting over Studentgate.

It's time to let it go......

It's best just leaving you to your fantasy recollections of what's been said. I have no wish to assist you any longer in your goal to make yourself look daft. You're doing a good job all by yourself.

Yes, why did he react to that question? Those were sensible subsitutions, putting another defender on to help defend high balls, while moving Basham into midifeld would give us more bite there, coupled by Washington's pace for counter attacks. It was just a shame that they scored from that free kick. If they'd scored before the substitutions I doubt we'd made the same ones.

But were they sensible at the time? Were we in danger from high balls? Did we need bite in midfield and did we need the alleged "pace" of Washington?. I reckon not. We needed Duffy off as he wanted to be off. That was to my mind the only change that was needed and that could have been accommodated differently. There's too much of this stock or standard changing when its not needed. 10 mins to go, chuck another defender on and get more people behind the ball with an "outlet". It's almost as if it's in the manual of "football management for dummies."

I think you need to give up with the students, they exist in your mind only as exhibited by your claim that they all coincidentally sit near to you in the SS in prime seats on POD tickets. I'm an optimist in that I don't lay awake at night worrying about our prospects against the likes of Brentford and Wigan and I expect us to find a couple of million to get quality loans in the JTW. I predicted top 6 last year and this whilst your "ilk" were happy to settle for one place above relegation. The "slashers" ironically are the optimistic ones and you lot the Victor Meldrews.

He'll have the last word. He has to. He never dosent. And God is it boring.

More untruths and fantasies.

Plus a final comment which defies belief.

Ganged up on by slashing optimists.

Terrifying.
I like the idea of "The Slashing Optimist" :)

A change of image for Captain Blade methinks - takes you out at the knee with his cutlass with a huge grin on his face.

Can someone out there do some work on this please?

I'm sure Colin Murray on Quest last Saturday said that, in the last 68 league games the smoggies have gone in front, they've won 61 and drawn 7.
I bet if Roygbiv went on the boro board there would still be more moaning on there than we have moaning on here.

He did sound a bit miffed in that interview - "I think a few of our supporters stayed at the end to clap the players"!
I stayed. It felt like we’d just been fully drubbed 0-3 and were 17th. I really don’t get people sometimes. We used to passionately clap far lesser teams off for putting a shift in. I accept that a late goal shifts the mood but we still drew with a team that I doubt had a single player earning less than our top earner, a team that has been in the prem for 10 years, who had a single player (probably more than one) that cost more than our whole team with a couple of people who have full England caps to their name.

They’ll rise up and be in the mix at the end of the season. That said I think half the league could be in the mix with half a dozen games left!

Give the blades a clap for fucks sake.

(You’re only rushing off to get jostled trying to get out, walk in to umpteen people, to then queue up in your car for ages. Take five minutes, clap the team, have a leisurely walk back to the car, maybe buy a kit kat. By the time I do that 90% of those desperate to queue and get angry about it on the way home have fucked off and it’s quite a leisurely journey home. The difference is probably the five minutes I wait so only those with a train to catch are allowed to leave early for me - sorry wandered off a bit there!)

With this changing the meaning of optimism i’ve clearly missed, Morrisey could be in for a rebrand.

Heaven knows I’m optimistic now

You forgot to add your usual caveat, something along the lines of:

"But I doubt top 6 is feasible, there are much better teams with more money than us in this league. I would be happy with mid-table as we have the likes of Leeds and the mighty Brentford coming up soon. After 6 years in L1 we should all be grateful to McCabe for steering us to these giddy heights".

I always listen to Wilders post match interviews on Radio Sheffield and I have noticed that he regularly includes a couple of barbed comments, which I assume are either aimed at the Twitterati or he must come on here and read some of the guff that's posted on a regular basis.

After the Wigan game he said that basically we'd played better against Stoke and then sarcastically added, "oh but we gave the ball away twice or something didn't we?", I assume a comment on some of the negative criticism after the Stoke game. I've heard him include quite a few comments like this into his interviews recently.

I found it amusing when asked what he thought about the complimentary things that Paul Cook had said about us, he said something like, "well Paul's a proper manager.... (then listed some of his achievements with various unfashionable clubs)... and then said "you won't find him wearing a 5 grand suit on the touchline". This made me laugh and I assume it was a direct reference to Frank Lampard (or should that be "Frank Lampard's Derby County" to give him his full name).

He was a referring to an interview he did for Sky where he was asked if he would stand more chance of being picked up by one of the top clubs if he wore a £5K suit rather than a tracksuit on the touchline. He replied "I don't own anything that cost five grand."
