Once a Blade, always a daft ****
Anyone think we could have someone in for Monday? Just seemed a bit of an odd sentence when interviewed by The Star (highlighted) Just me I suppose hanging on his every word
"Sheffield United could be forced to employ a high-risk strategy in this summer’s transfer market, manager Chris Wilder has admitted, as they pursue a select band of high-quality targets.
United have made two new centre-forwards their top priority after goalkeeper Dean Henderson completed his loan move to Bramall Lane.
Despite being handed an improved recruitment budget by co-owners HRH Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Kevin McCabe following last season’s push for the Championship play-offs, the Manchester United youngster remains the only new face to arrive at the club since the window reopened in May.
But, as his squad prepares to report back for training on Monday, Wilder has admitted it was inevitable that progress would be slow because of the calibre of player they are chasing.
“It (the transfer window) might be a bit of a slowburn for us,” Wilder, who allowed Samir Carruthers to join Oxford on a season long basis on Thursday, said. “That’s because we’re looking at quality, not quantity, and so deals take a little bit longer to get done.
“I’m comfortable with that situation, though, because of the group we’ve got here already. Ideally, you always want things to get done quickly. You never quite now when things are going to get done, it’s impossible to predict, but if we don’t get more in for Monday then so be it. We’ll carry on working, no problems.
”United, who must decide whether to resurrect their interest in Southampton’s Sam Gallagher, beat off competition from a number of clubs to secure Henderson’s services from Manchester United.
Wilder, whose side eventually finished 10th despite entering the penultimate match of the 2017/18 campaign chasing a top six berth, admitted he had been tracking the 21-year-old for “a few seasons.
”With up to four new faces set to arrive at the Steelphalt Academy before August 4th’s opener against Swansea City, Wilder yesterday continued the process of placing those on the periphery of his plans with rival teams.
Carruthers, aged 25, is scheduled to remain at the Kassam Stadium until May. Karl Robinson, his former manager at MK Dons, in now in charge of the League One club.
