Anyone think that Davies down the A61 is worth a shout? 24 goals this season and looks big, strong and quick. Can we afford him?

Those 4 words demonstrate how low we are as a football club. Can we afford a striker from Chesterfield? Fuck me. I NEVER thought we'd be asking that question.

Another point that makes everything sink in:
I once lived with a girl who is an Exeter City fan. In 2006/7 we were plying our trade in the prem whereas they were plodding away in the conference. There is a possibility that they will sneak into the play offs and be a league above us next season. Exeter. A league above us.

Think the other worrying thing is 'Would he come'? Leaving a team that are on a high to one in the doldrums.

I thought he was off to Reading or somewhere like that.
Not a chance of him being at SUFC while we are in same division as Chessy.
He would have his sights set far higher than us.
More chance of signing Craig David, any day of the week.

A good shout, were we to be a Championship club next season. Sad to say, but we'll have to try to find talent yet to break through as opposed to Davies who now has.

Bet we go for LeFondre and I have my doubts about him even at Div 3 level.
There's a pretty good striker looking to break through who scored his first senior goal yesterday. Name of Jordan Slew.
If we can get a good player to work alongside him plus some effective backup we might score more than one goal a game?
As it is we will be stuck with Cresswell. Deep joy.

We'll be in the same league next season, so I doubt it, I think Kenilworth is closer with his shout on ALF.

It's going to take 8+ signings and plenty of sales/releasing to make us a team.

Torres hasn't shown his worth to Chelsea as yet so why should any goal threat be enough for us on his own?

The knack should be finding the player before he emerges rather than after! As I have said in another thread, I want to see working partnerships within the team. Before we blow a big nut of our budget on a striker I'd rather know we have ideas about fullbacks and wingers. A player scores 20+ because the 10 around him give him and themselves maybe 400 chances on goal. We need more craft and better final balls before we look at an expensive striker!

IMO Davies and ALF are beyond us. That's how far we've fallen. We'll be a team of youth and journeymen next season. That may not be a bad thing mind. I remember Norwich signing Michael Nelson from Hartlepool when they got relegated and he was fantastic for them in their promotion season. Obviously Paul Lambert compared to MA has an eye for talent and has signed some great players for Norwich. I can't wait to see the names that get linked to us in the summer!! Steve Kabba anyone?!

Out of interest Gaz, who has Lambert signed? A lot of people bark on about Holt, but make the fatal mistake in thinking Lambery signed him, which he didn't!

I agree with the principle though, someone in the Paul Lambert mould would be ideal for us, someone who isn't afraid to have a go, and someone who is very well respected.
