If Andy Carroll is worth £35m, then we should be looking to sign Ched up to a longer deal at the end of this season.

I firmly believe that Carroll is only a bit better than our Ched, and was made to look a lot better last season by the superb service that he got.

Liverpool have been utterly mugged, and i take it back what i said about Darren Bent last week.

Ched will stick in 20+ next season provided we give him some decent service, so i'd tie him down for longer before he walks on a free. If he bags 20+ next season, and makes it to 15 this season, we'll easy make our money back on him.

I agree but I can't wait to see how this thread develops. Captain Rocket Science is probably too busy having a fit at the mere thought of an extended contract.

Regarding Andy Carroll - what will happen to the bail conditions set by the court that he has to live with Kevin Nolan?

If Ched was given a 2 year extension he would be costing us more than Carroll according to Len's figures of what Ched has cost us :-)

^^^^ dead right fella! And me too...:D

I will bare my arse, cock and bollocks on the town hall steps if we were to extend his contract.

Seriously, time will hopefully make me have to eat humble pie re Ched's abilities, and I'll enjoy it. But the days of us paying single players £1M per year in wages are well behind us. Have a look at our recent transfer business if in any doubt.

So if he sticks in another 10 between now and the end of the season, you don't think they'll extend his contract?

Absolutely no chance of a contract extension - unless he takes a 50 to 75 per cent drop in wages.
Good luck with that.
They will probably look to sell in the summer.

No, because we couldn't afford to if we wanted to. And to be honest, It's £20K per week contracts that has left us bottom fishing where we are right now. So we shouldn't, either way.

Cue much teeth grinding from the pair of you if we do sell him (and he's bagged another 10)

Agreed on both counts. There's a small chance he'd do that though. It must be clear to him that he's not going to get a contract anywhere near his lost one, from anywhere. If not, well definitley be looking to sell this summer.

I'm not sure I follow fella. I'll view it objectively. I don't see that we'd have any option, unless he was going to sign for a huge drop in wages .

Do you disgaree with me? You may rate him higher, but you surely can't think we should be allocating >£1M from a £6m budget on one single player?

If he hits another 10 this season, then i would extend his contract, to insure ourselves against the possibility of him pissing off for free the following summer.

But if he does score that many then i'd expect another team to come in for him. There will be clubs that will pay his wages, whoever comes down next season for instance. So if we don't extend it, i'd expect him to be sold as well. Wouldn't be happy about it though. But like i say it's contingent on him continuing his current form.

"Contract extension for Ched"

Let's hope not, he has been nothing but ineffective since he's been at the Lane. We should have traded him in during this transfer window for a decent centre half.

You're living in an alternative universe Highbury.
Have you seen the kind of players we've signed this window?
We're preparing for League One and that won't include extending contracts for players on 20k a week.

surprised ched hasn't left actually.. i wonder if his form will now dip again now that we are past the transfer window?.. or am i being cynical.. first bid and he'll be gone.
