Marcus Williams has joined League Two outfit Scunthorpe United on-loan until 1st January 2014.

The 27-year-old rejoins the club where he started his professional career, having made 50 appearances for the Blades, after joining, initially on-loan, from Reading in September 2011.

The left-back signed a permanent deal at Bramall Lane in January 2012 and contributed to the Blades reaching the play-off final during the first season in League One.

His last game in United colours came in the 3-1 defeat at Brentford in August.

Williams could make his second Iron debut against Torquay United at the weekend.

Has he really made 50 appearances? Blimey, must've shut a few of those out of my memory...

Hope he does well and gets a permanent deal in January. To say that things haven't worked out for him or the Blades in him coming here is a great understatement. Doubt there's any way back now so I wish him all the best in his future career.

Contributed little, poor defensively. Never scored a professional goal and would doubt there are many if any assists in his 50 games.

He knows his contract is being cancelled, so he won't be back

Why not he's done nothing but insult us with his performances.

He could go up against Jordan Chappell down the right, be interesting to see which United reject comes out on top.

Thank fuck, one of the worst players I have seen wear the shirt,

Only 27? I put some of his supreme wankness down to his legs going. So, he's just supremely wank then.

UTB

He made Nyron Notworthy look good

Out of interest, I was checking his career info on Wikipedia. Turns out he has NEVER commanded a transfer fee in his ten year career, having played for four different clubs.

All very witty and amusing slagging the lad off on here but putting all spite and vitriol aside for a moment I was wondering why he has not featured since the Brentford game, not even much as a sub - certainly never really near the first team again. He did a piece for Blades Player just after that match saying how pleased he was to be starting and hoping that he could now cement a long term place at left back. Then he vanished. Nobody was sure if he was injured or whether he had been in confrontation with the management, nothing.

This got me thinking about the significance of an incident reported after the Brentford game where some idiot with real venom told him, specifically, to "fuck off and die" as the players walked off the pitch after the final whistle - I didn't hear it as me & Ken Jnr were still behind the goal. Now he certainly wasn't the worst of the bunch that day and he hadn't been that dreadful in the previous games so I am coming to the conclusion that this incident could be the root of the problem as to why he has not featured. Well quite honestly, why would you want to bust your guts out for supporters like that? Confidence is a fragile thing anyway - despite the money they earn they are still human - I would defy anyone to be able to maintain a level of performance at a peak if that is the kind of feedback you get from those that are supposed to support you through thick and thin.
By all means boo or jeer at the collective at the end of a match if the performance of the group has been well below their best - but Jeez - that sort of personal abuse is way over the top.

If it was the reason why he has slunk away into relative obscurity then I, for one, feel deeply sorry for the lad - I am sure he wants to do well - no one goes out there to perform badly. It's hard enough as it is FFS.

Good luck with the loan move at Scunny, Marcus - Hope it builds your career up again

To be fair, he certainly tried. Yes, it was almost laughable to see him on the left win at one point last season, and he's been woeful in the vast majority of games played, but at least he gave half a shit.

Are Scunny still in the cup? Flynn might actually beat a man if we draw them in Round 3.

Whilst not condoning the abuse if as you suggest this were to have had such an effect then I would be even more pleased to see him leave.

Excellent post Kenilworth, its a shame more don't have that view. Its so easy to sit behind a keyboard and write such poisonous vitriol, or shout personal abuse from the safety of the stands.
Would the perpetrators be as brave when face to face with a fit young athlete probably capable of 'looking after themselves' confrontationally. Methinks not!
However, I believe whilst Marcus wouldn't have enjoyed that experience, his departure isn't because of that reason and I hope he can sort out himself out and make something of what's left of his career.
