Apologies, but taken from PorkTalk.

They're furious...

Off to Utd [edit] according to Rob Statton:

BBC Radio Sheffield understands Sheffield United will be signing Wolves winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on a six month loan.

Yep, that is posted on Twitter. Radio Sheffield don't post idle rumours so I think that is virtually confirmed.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

I refuse to believe anyone could be called Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Think of the anagram fun Fleety can have though Rev.:)

Confirmed by the man himself...

@Mendezlaing Is it true that you're signing for the Super Blades on loan mate?

Mendezlaing N Mendez-laing

You obviously don't recall Forbes Phillipson-Masters who starred for Southampton in the late 70's....

He must win a prize for poshest name for a footballer ever.

Maitland Pollock played for Portsmouth in the 70s. Sounds like a firm of solicitors

edit: and Reuben Noble-Lazarus at Barnsley?

Hang on, I thought we were anti-loans, or are we just anti-Nosworthy? ;)

Her's some...

The last one would be useful in the unlikely event of a gay team from Barnsley topping the league.

Mentioned in the Express and Star: http://www.expressandstar.com/sport...11/08/05/mendez-laing-joins-sheffield-united/

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was today poised to complete a youth loan move to Sheffield United until January.

Mendez-Laing will join the Blades – relegated to League One – after a protracted move to Peterborough fell through this week.

A six-figure fee was agreed between the clubs, but the deal fell through over personal terms.

The 19-year-old returned to Wolves and scored for the development side in Monday’s 3-0 win at Airbus, before the Blades came calling.

The pacy wide man has significant experience of League One football through his season-long loan to Peterborough, making 40 appearances in Posh’s promotion season.

Nothing on OS yet.

I remember him from his Plymouth days. he played at the Lane a couple of times.

the Plymouth fans had a long drawn out song where they sang all of the letters in his name ("give us a F!" "F!" and so on), which included the splendid "Give us a hyphen!"

As for young Nath, I'm anti loans but either (a) he really doesn't exist and it won't matter or (b) he plays wide in midfield which means less room in midfield for Donty.

Thread moved as confirmed on OS: http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~2411137,00.html

Blades boss Danny Wilson is pleased to have landed Wolves winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on the eve of the new campaign.

The 19-year-old wide man joins the Blades on a long-term loan until 3rd January 2012 and is expected to go straight into the squad to face Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

"He is just what we need right now," explained Wilson. "Nathaniel is strong, fast and will be a good addition to our squad as we look to make a powerful start."

Mendez-Laing is an England junior international and spent the entirety of last season loan at Peterborough United, contributing as they won promotion to the Championship.

There were reports that a permanent deal to Peterborough was on the cards but that did not materialise.

I simply can't add up the number of points for "Donty". Outstanding.

Presumably, someone will be leaving to pay the wages of the 19 year old loanee until January? Well done DW for signing a square peg for one of the square peg shaped holes. RAPFA, presumably, approves.

Is this the signing DW hinted at as the one he really wanted (and the one that if we signed we wouldn't necessarily be able to then sign Kruk/McDonald/new keeper)?

I saw the guy numerous times for Posh last season and put him in the safely in the category 'fast but no real football brain'. I see him as a sub with pace to stretch opposition defences when we're looking for a goal. He did improve for Posh as the season went on.

I'd prefer quick wingers or strikers to come in on loan, rather than centre halves/central midfielders. Happy with this signing, sounds like the ideal type of addition in terms of attributes and the positions he can play and very much an addition to what we already have.

Looks quite well built on the video on o/s too. Lets hope he can be an impact player as thats what we lack

Found a video of one of his goals on Youtube. Good take, though shocking marking by Rochdale

Doesn't look like Rochdale get many fans in either :)
