On the back of a great JTW there is a good vibe about the place now. Plus NC's teamtalk should be one of the easiest he's ever given. Not only is there the carrot of Man Utd, but we now have 2 very good starting XIs with quality players on the bench and out of the squad just itching for a start. If you don't perform, somebody else will.

Plus a televised cup tie v Man Utd may well pay for a striker on loan!

having seen them lose at crawley at the weekend looks optimistic

would like to play man utd , but if we dont win can concentrate on the master plan

We have an amazing record in FA Cup ties where we drew the first game away. We have lost only one in the last 54 years and that on pens:

1961-62 3r Bury A D0-0, replay D2-2, 2nd replay W2-0
1964-65v 3r Bristol City A D1-1 replay W3-1
1966-67 4r Fulham A D1-1 replay W3-1
1980-81 1r Stockport A D0-0 replay W3-2
1982-83 1r Hull A D1-1 Replay W2-0
1982-83 2r Boston A D1-1 Replay won 5-1
1983-84 2r Lincoln A D0-0 Replay W1-0
1988-89 1r Mansfiled A D1-1 Replay W2-1
1991-92 4r Charlton A D0-0 Replay W3-1
1992-93 6r Blackburn A D0-0 Replay D2-2 (5-3 on pens)
1995-96 3r Arsenal A D1-1 Replay W1-0
1997-98 4r Ipswich A D1-1 Replay W1-0
1997-98 6r Coventry A D1-1 Replay D1-1 (3-1 on pens)
2004-05 4r West Ham A D1-1 Replay D1-1 (3-1 on pens)
2004-05 5r Arsenal A D1-1 Replay D0-0 (2-4 on pens)

And didn't Harley miss a free header in the last minute of ET in the Arsenal defeat, before they basically won on pens because Paddy Kenny could only dive in 1 direction?

Did we once beat Wycombe on pennos in a replay? Late 90s maybe? * edit was away, so probably not relevant to the original point...

Harley's header was fingertipped over by Almunia. A very good save

The only time we have played Wycombe in a cup game was on 1/10/02 when we won 4-1 at the lane in the second round of the League Cup. Michael Boulding's only goal, plus 2 for Brown and 1 for Monty.

We were undefeated in FA Cup replays, home and away, between 1984 (lost to Birmingham) and 2005 (lost to Arsenal). The away ties:

1987 won 2-1 at Brighton
1989 won 2-0 v Colchester
1990 won 2-1 at Watford
1990 drew 0-0 at Barnsley
1990 won 1-0 at Barnsley
1993 won 4-2 at Burnley
1998 won 2-1 at Bury
1999 won 4-3 at Notts County
2000 drew 1-1 at Rushden (won on pens)

Adding Darren's games at home that's 16 games without defeat in replays. Hard to check, but I bet it's a record.

The Brighton win broke a bad run - we had not won a replay after a home draw since 1930 against York...

I'm confident that it will be a sparseley populated BDTBL tonight.

I think I'm the only one of our regular crowd that's planning on being there.

I could be a very lonely pre match Blade in the Rutland

Well I was all for going, but due to having too pay an extra £3 on the day I've decided not to.

It's the principal of the matter....... Why £3 more today than yesterday.

Cant help but think the tantalising prospect of a hom tie v Man Utd means this wil result in pain.

I used to think you knew your stuff mate. But this is clearly bullshit.

11000 gone so far, so looking at about 12500 I reckon.

in some ways a blessing .gives all our focus to our primary aim .dont think we were getting arrogant just had a biit of positivity .that the new signings .all cup tied are the jigsaw finished.and that getting up is the only objective

As we have seen tonight to our cost ...... getting to the play-offs without a striker and with a team of midgets is going to be a real uphill task !!
UTB & FTP

in a strange way I am happy we lost let preston chop and change a few players now and drop a few points . cup runs are fine but we need to get the hell out of lg 1

Is Zone Man Wilf thinking of Rushden & Diamonds? Seem to remember us winning a replay there in the very early days of Warnock' s tenure. The only thing I remember about it is Shaun Derry' s hand over the mouth celebration.

Tonight was really disappointing - out played, out thought, out muscled and out of the cup
Preston looked up for it where we didn't - struggled to put three passes together and gave the ball away time and time again !
When are we going to stop giving away soft free kicks on the edge of the area ???
1-0 flattered us at half time 1-3 flattered us even more at full time
Well played Preston Very Poor United !!!

I think the match ended 1-1 and we went through after winning the penalty shootout.

That's saved Deadbat a job Fiery. Spot on every word. Just seen off Swindon, had a decent JTW but of course this club always has to bring us back down to Earth, we are consistently inconsistent, which is also a way of describing Baxters performances, though none of them with the exception of the man who wants away covered themselves in glory tonight.

Got to agree with every word, United and Preston both got what they deserved tonight.
